I think it's great you can do yoga! I could not. It increased my wrist pain so greatly that I was up at night with the agony. Free weights are okay for me as long as they are under 5 lbs. Otherwise my hand joints flare up like a balloon.

It hurts me more to make fists! I use push up bars or a dumbbell for certain things to ease my wrist pain. My Yoga teacher told me that there was something for the hands that cushion wrists. I went to look for it online but I couldn't find it. I have Yoga this morning with Jayne and if I find out the name of the product I'll let you know. jo

I have one of those Pilates for Dummies tapes and it is really wonderful and hard! There are only two exercises at the very end that force you up on your hands...and I modify those by closing up and making fists while I do them.
My wrists are completely damaged beyond repair according to x-rays and I do have to be careful. I take IBUPROFIN and ENBREL injections.
It sounds like you are managing your pain. That is great!

Good point. Sorry to hear about your pain. I too have arthritis and Sjogren's Syndrome, an autoimmune disorder as is RA.
I am surprised you can do Pilates! You must have a very gentle instructor since so much of Pilates uses hands and wrists. Perhaps you don't use foam rollers or rings. In any case I think I have strenghtened and lessened the pain in my hands doing Yoga and Pilates though I do take NSAIDS daily so perhaps that's why I am not bothered.
Again sorry to hear about your pain and thank you for that comment to others. jo

NOT REALLY RECOMMENDED FOR EVERYONE! (Reply to this comment)

I purchased a BUN and THIGH ROLLER and I am 41 and have Rheumatoid Arthritis. I am in good shape and try to run or walk every day. I tried this machine and it is very hard on the hands and wrists, because you have to put your weight on the handlebars while you roll back. I developed numbness in my right thumb! This is a warning to anyone with wrist or hand trouble...do not use this machine! It has been two weeks and I still have some numbness in my thumb, but it has improved. This exercise "gizmo" is not for everyone! Well, I guess it's back to Pilates for me.
