Pros: Coffee made quickly, never scorched. Professional looking machine.
Cons: Fairly large on my counter. Carafe lid was hard to open, but getting easier.
The Bottom Line: This fine coffee maker makes a pot in 3 minutes and keeps it hot for hours without evaporation. Easy to use. I recommend it to anyone that loves coffee.
microman33's Full Review: Bunn BT10B 10-Cup Coffee Maker
Having used several other coffee makers with burners, I was looking for the insulated carafe type. Bunn is a well known brand which makes the majority of commercial coffee makers. I found it in my local Pamida store, read the box, and decided to go for it. They had other Bunn's on sale for $89. I expected to pay $139 for this one, but it rang up at $99. Bonus!
The first time it is used, the burner for the tank must be turned on (after adding a carafe of water). When that water is hot, you are ready to go. There is a fill line in the slightly bulky, insulated carafe. Then open the lid on top and pour in the water. A little spiky plastic piece pops up when the lid is opened. This keeps water from filling the basket with the coffee and filter in it. Do not close this lid until you have the carafe under the basket. I made that mistake only once; coffee appears almost instantly when the lid goes down. Now put the cover on the carafe, put it under the basket, close the top lid and in three minutes you have a pot of coffee. There is a small hole in the center of the carafe lid through which the brewed coffee enters the carafe.
I found the lid fit really snug and it is thick. You turn it about a tenth of a turn to release it and then wiggle it out of there to open. This was hard the first few times, but it soon became easier or I got better at doing it.
Since there is no burner under the carafe, there is no liquid evaporation and the quality of the coffee remains high. It is hot and stays hot for several hours, but not all day. I have a one quart thermos that I transfer the coffee to after my first cup or two. Then I have hot coffee all day.
The basket uses normal 2.75 by 3 inch filters. I bought 100 Bunn filters for $1.19, but any of them that size will do.
You cannot interrupt the coffee flow to "steal" a cup of coffee, but 3 minutes is not long to wait.
When on vacation or if not used very often, the tank burner switch must be turned off. The water in there will evaporate over time. You are using electricity to keep the water in the tank warm 24/7. If you are living with solar electricity, this would not be a good choice for you.
I make one to two pots of coffee per day for my family and this Bunn coffee maker is great for me. It makes coffee fast, keeps it hot, and it never gets thick sitting on a warmer plate. I recommend this coffee maker to anyone that likes coffee.
