Pros: A super cup of coffee without bitterness. Great coffee from almost any grind.
Cons: Water evaporation and energy consumption. Non-standard filters that are difficult to locate.
The Bottom Line: Spend the money on this coffee maker and save hundreds by not replacing it. It is far superior to any maker I've tried since the first Mr. Coffee years ago.

When I want a cup of coffee in the morning, I want it RIGHT NOW! That is what I get with this coffee maker. Having spent hundreds of dollars on $50+ coffee makers, including those with timers and some $20 cheapees, I thought I'd give this Bunn maker a try when I saw it made quick pots of coffee with pre-heated water.
I first bought one for the office from an office supply chain and was thrilled that it easily kept up with the demands of 11 discriminating coffee drinkers - that was over 5 years ago and it is still in daily use. I then had to buy one for a neighboring office, one for me, and one for my Mom for Christmas soon after. I feel I've saved hundreds of dollars by not replacing coffee makers yearly.
The water is stored in a reservoir in the maker and is kept pre-heated, ready to brew. When you pour water into the maker, the hot water immediately filters through the grounds producing bitter-free coffee full of flavor. A water container for pouring is supplied because you will not get the water in before it coffee is coming out. I find it convenient for one cup or 4 cups of coffee. Though it is an eight cup maker, you'll get 4 cups (regular mugs) of coffee. Does anyone drink from the old, small 6 oz cups?
I've tried and enjoyed many coffee brands and have discovered that even the cheaper coffees taste good from this maker and that the better coffees taste even better. If you happen to not use the maker for 3 or 4 days, you'll need to pre-run some water through the maker to refill the reservoir. If you are a weekend coffee drinker, look elsewhere. The water will evaporate from this maker, but it is an easy trade for me.
This maker uses taller, non-standard filters and requires Bunn replacement filters to keep the grounds from overflowing into your coffee. I've not found generic replacements and have great difficulty in locating retailers who stock the Bunn filters. I bought them last from the Bunn website.
I've watched these 4 coffee makers operate almost daily for over 5 years without a hiccup. The only complaints heard are the drawbacks I've detailed. I feel a bit guilty when I consider the energy consumption of keeping that water heated for on-demand coffee, but enjoy too much the gratification of the great-tasting coffee I get.
This coffee maker comes with a nifty spring tool to keep the lines free of mineral deposits and works well, even in hard water areas like mine. If this coffee maker ever dies on me, I'll certainly replace it with the same model.
