This is the very best everyday basic home or office brewer ever manufactured - No contest. The simplicity and ease of use are equally as great as the resulting coffee.
It features a stainless steel holding tank that keeps just over 2 pots of water at the optimal brewing temperature of 195-200F. It uses an 800 watt element for heating up the water, and keeps it hot with an additional 34 watt "keep warm" heater coil. It comes with a glass 10-cup carafe, a specially designed removable spray head, a 46 watt ceramic-coated warming plate, and on/off switches for the boiler and warmer plate. It is easy to install, simply fill with 2 pots of water and plug it in. It's ready to use in 15 minutes or when the boiling sound stops.
The GR-X is an incredibly easy to use and simple machine. It produces a full bodied brew equal to those found in restaurants and coffee shops. It does this by using the same patented brewing process as their commercial counterparts. Your regular drip coffee makers simply allow water to drip through and compact the grounds, leaving behind uncooked and unextracted grounds.
This is not a drip coffee maker.
When water is poured into the top reservoir, hot water is forced out of the tank and through the spray head under pressure. This creates just enough turbulence within the funnel to suspend the coffee grounds, making it possible to evenly and more completely extract the flavours and oils, in just enough time to avoid a bitter brew.
While brewing, the unit heats the fresh water for its next use. Remove the spray head and funnel and you have access to a steady stream of 200 degree water that is always ready to use. Makes boiling water for pasta - virtually instant.
Everyone has their own way of making coffee. I am a fan of Tim Hortons and therefore, I want to imitate their method of brewing.
Here is the secret method to a perfect brew with this particular machine...
First off, filters MUST be BUNN brand. I get mine from a nearby Tim Hortons, and they are available online from BUNN's website. I get 100 BUNN filters for a buck or two. Other filters are TOO SHORT and not rigid enough for the high pressure spray involved in the BUNN brewing process. Metal filters in my opinion allow too much residual to get into the brew, causing undesirable flavours and sediments.
I make a bed of a little over 1 inch of fine grind coffee in the filter. I then use a pitcher to measure and pour fresh, clean water into the machine.
First tip: I pour 1/4 of the water into the machine, close the lid and wait 10-15 seconds before adding the rest of the water. This is the same thing that happens in BUNN's commercial units, as they briefly "wet the grounds" just before the main brewing starts. This unlocks the grounds and dramatically improves the body of the whole brew, as it allows the grounds to extract more thoroughly.
Second tip: If you use cream, use 18% cream to match the taste of the coffee shop.
Total brewing time is just over 3 minutes for 10 cups.
Maintaining the machine is easy, as there are no moving parts. Simply wipe the plastic body with a damp cloth, and remove mineral deposits in the water tube with the included deliming spring. CLR or vinegar run through monthly will keep the tank free of mineral deposits.
To finish off, I highly recommend this unit for anyone who wants the taste of a coffee shop in their own home or office. My aunt has been using hers for almost 20 years and BUNN just sent her some new seals at no charge. It has NO automatic timer, but who needs it when coffee is ready before you can get out a couple mugs and grab the cream and sugar?

While watching the movie E.T. recently, I noticed in the opening scene that Elliot's mom was enjoying a hot cup of joe brewed in her BUNN home brewer which is visible proudly perched on the counter behind her. Note that the coffee Elliot's mother spills later on in the movie appears to be full bodied, hot and fresh. Brewed to perfection!
