| gypsyrose75's Full Review: Bunn GR Series Home Coffee Brewer |
Two years ago I became really good friends with Dawn, Blonbabydawn, and she had this speedy toy in her kitchen that I was marveled at for the longest time. After some pressure and arm twisting, I broke down and bought one.
First off I have to say that I am a big coffee drinker. My husband and I both will drink 3-4 pots a day. Two in the mornings and two at night on any given day. We are not the exquisite drinkers, Maxwell House or Folgers is fine with us. But I will not drink the last cup. For some reason, that last bit has the taste of burned water. Even in a Bunn, its not the most pleasant thing to drink. (Bunn Manufactures recommend to discard coffee one hour after brewing for best flavor.)
Features
~Hot water reserve tank
~Decanter
~Brew Funnel
~Hot Plate with Separate Power Switch
~48 oz Water Container
~Vacation Switch (Reserve Tank Power Switch)
~Lid
~Deliming Spring Probe
Use
Simply fill up the water container to the desired amount with cold water. Be sure there is filter and coffee grinds (to taste) in funnel, turn on hot plate and pour water into the screened area. Note: Be sure to keep the canister under the coffee funnel. It will come out as you are pouring the water and if nothing is there to catch it, you will have one heck of a mess to clean up. (Learn from my error.)
Likes
Making coffee does not take a genius but this is beyond easy. Being there is a reserve tank with preset water temperature the coffee is guaranteed to be HOT. (Precisely 200F, handle with care.)
I have the option of how much I want to make. If I want 4 cups, I just put in enough water to the screened area and that amount takes under 60 seconds to complete.
All detachable parts (Funnel, Canister, Lid) are dishwasher safe.
Dimensions
14 1/2 high; 7 inches wide; 13 3/4 inches deep
Capacity
Two to eight 6 ounce cups (12-48 oz) per batch.
Weight
Ten Pounds; included decanter, water pitcher, filters, coffee funnel, and deliming spring probe.
Cleaning/Maintenance
1) Unplug from wall.
2) Unscrew the spray head with fingers.
3) Insert all but 2 inches of probe through spray head opening.
4) Slide tool in and out several times (5-6) to loosen mineral deposits collected in the tube.
5) Rinse out spray head nozzle as well. Then Replace.
6) Plug in the brewer and allow the water in the tank to reheat before using again. The time between cleaning depends on the hardness of your water.
When we moved we had to empty the water out of the hot water reserve tank. To do that simply unscrew the top of the brewer and dump out. Let sit till dry and reassemble.
The only difference I can see between this GR and the B8 is the hot water reserve tank on the GR is encased in Black plastic to match the remainder of the Brewer. The B8 version is metal and unappealing to the eye. Both still taste and work the same excellent manner.
I would recommend this product to anyone who has a flavor for coffee. If you are an infrequent coffee drinker this may not be for you. You may not get your moneys worth. Great for people on a tight time schedule and you want coffee without waiting 15 minutes for your first cup.
Also great for hot water to make Tea or kids Hot Cocoa on a moments notice.
**A lot can go wrong in 10 minutes before your first cup of coffee, so start it off with a Bunn Cup.**
