Okay, to keep the story short, we were in the market for a bike trailer for our little one since we just took up the hobby of mountain biking in Colorado. All summer last year, we tried to look for a used one, no luck, so we finally gave in and bought a new 2001 model for $325 (not bad, since it's $395 everywhere else. We ordered it online, no tax, no shipping. It was a short promotion I randomly came across after surfing for months online.
pros: we love it, safe, if the bike falls down, the trailer does not fall down. The frame is built well, collapsable, easy to put it together and take it apart, wind and rain proof siding, and hood is there as an extra feature, easy to maneuver, light, and it's just great. You can fit up to 100 lbs, meaning we will have our kids in it for a long time. There is also a little storage area in the back so I can take it to the grocery store down the street.
cons: Soooo expensive. I think it's worth it if you have that kind of money to spare, and the wheels are not shock proof. I asked the REI guy who deals with them all the time. But... You don't have to pump the wheel until it's full. You can pump it up, and leave room to absorb the shock. That is the only way you can get a "shock system" feel.
I think if you can find a used one, (be careful, you want to not get one that's 10 yrs old, because they don't collapse) you should defintely do that. It is so durable that the older models are very reliable, and the models have not changed much. (which tells you something about the product) I also hear the Instep is also well built and not as expensive, so if you can't afford this one, look into the top line Instep.
