| mikemericle's Full Review: Burley D'Lite |
We have two little boys and they love to go. So we were looking for a carrier that would allow us to take them places like parks and pools. We heard from a lot of people about the quality of the Burley and when we searched around it was obvious why. There are a lot of imitations coming out now, based on the Burleys awesome design and ease of use. The prices are sometimes a lot cheaper on these models, however; I am from the school of you get what you pay for. The Burley just rides so smoothe and is easy to setup, with plenty of space and options.
It folds up to save a lot of space. We don't take it with us anywhere so we don't put it in the car, although you could very easily. We store it on two bike hooks in the garage to get it out of the way. The wheels also come off with a quick release device which makes it even easier to lug around (if you need to). The weight of the thing is actually very light to carry around, until you put the kids in it. It is very easy to setup. Two bars to open up and put pins in, attach it to your bike very easily and your off. Ooops, you forgot the kids. There is enough room in the Burley for two kids. I have a five year old and a three year old and they still fit comfortably. There are both shoulder straps and waist straps for extra security. There are different protective flaps for covering the Burley. Mesh for hot sunny days, and clear plastic for the days when it might be rainy. The back of the Burley has a little "trunk" if you will, where you can store things to take on that picnic family outing. It's not the hugest thing, but we're able to get a few kids baseball bats, and extra clothes, balls and stuff like that in there. You won't be able to put suitcases in there or nothing that big, but I don't know why a person would ever need to.
The ride is pretty smoothe. Obviously as your children get bigger the Burley seems heavier, but it still rides amazingly light for the weight you may be pulling. The kids say that it rides smoothly also.
You are able to buy a stroller attachment which is nothing more than a handlebar and a wheel, so you can use it like a stroller. We didn't go this route however, so I don't know how easy or nice that is.
Overall the Burley is very nice. It's a bit pricey, but is worth it for the serious biking family. We don't use it as much as we planned and we probably could have purchased a cheaper brand and have been happy, but that is a personal decision you'll have to make. We are not disappointed with the purchase, and neither are the kids. Hope this helps. If you go to the Burley website they can give you a lot more information.
