tracmd's Full Review: Burts Bees Baby Bee Diaper Ointment 3 Oz
When I was choosing my baby hygiene basics, I decided to give Burt's Bees a try. I opted for the Baby Bee Diaper Ointment. I purchased a 2 oz. tube for about $6 or $7 at Whole Foods. I have subsequently been able to purchase 3 oz. tubes at Target for around $5 or $6. I initially balked at the price a bit, but had been happy with other Burt's Bees products in the past. Plus, I wanted to go with a natural option for my daughter's bum. I also wanted a cruelty free product if at all possible.
Burt's Bees Baby Bee Diaper Ointment is 100% natural, according to the label, as well as the Burt's Bees website. The ingredients are:
I first tried the diaper ointment when my daughter was a newborn. Though we changed her diaper often, she still managed to get some redness on her rear end. I cleansed the area, and subsequently applied a small amount of the diaper ointment.
The ointment is a thick white cream which a mild medicinal herbal smell. It is not an offensive smell at all. In fact, I find that it is quite pleasant and clean smelling. When I applied the the ointment, I found that a little went a long way. The ointment provides excellent coverage. Once applied, it stays where it is suppose to in an opaque fashion.
Once I applied the ointment, I fastened a clean, dry diaper, and waited for Burt's Bees to do their trick. This was a nighttime change, and I expected that I would not need to change my daughter's diaper for another 4-5 hours (her maximum sleeping time at that time). When I changed my daughter's diaper several hours later, I noticed that the ointment was still very much in place on my daughter's skin. Of course, some of it had soaked into her skin, as well as into the diaper. However, there was a definite distinct remnant of the ointment. Most importantly, I noticed that the rash and redness had begun to fade.
I repeated the treatment, cleansing the area with a wipe and then reapplying some ointment. To make a long story short, I did this over the next 24 hours or so, and then the rash was gone. I was very impressed with how quickly and effectively the ointment worked.
I have subsequently used the ointment on several occasions. Luckily, my daughter doesn't get diaper rash often. However, when she does I always reach for this cream. It always seems to resolve the problem within 24 hours typically, and 48 hours at most.
My daughter's skin is also prone to prickly heat, particularly on her belly under the top of the diaper. I have applied this ointment to her prickly heat, and have also experienced great results. The prickly heat tends to clear up after 1-2 applications.
If I were to put together a gift basket for someone, of baby care essentials, I would be sure to include Burt's Bees Baby Bee Diaper Ointment. It works great and is a natural, cruelty free option. I suspect that if a new parent tried it on their baby, they would surely be hooked.
