I love the fragrance of the Bay Rum line by Burt’s Bees. When my fiancé is wearing anything from this product line, I can’t get enough of smelling his skin! I have to admit I love the fragrance so much, that I’ve tried some of the products myself, even though they are made for men.
The Product:
Burt’s Bees Bay Rum Exfoliating Soap is available individually as a full-size bar (3.25 oz.) priced at $5 and also in a sample size that is available with the Burt’s Bees Bay Rum sample kit ($6.50). The soap is packaged in white paper with a bearded, beach bum man on the cover (is this Burt?!). The soap is a dark reddish brown that is slightly textured.
The packaging reads as follows: “The mild abrasion of ground herbs and spices thoroughly cleanse and invigorate the skin while improving circulation.” It also states that Burt’s Bees Bay Rum Exfoliating Soap is 99.89% natural.
You can find Burt’s Bees products on-line at www.burtsbees.com and www.drugstore.com, at select natural grocery stores, and some salons. I’ve actually seen these products sold at my local shoe warehouse as well! It seems that the Burt’s Bees line is becoming more widely available.
The ingredients in Burt’s Bees Bay Rum Exfoliating Soap are: Vegetable soap base, vegetable glycerin, bay oil, orange oil, cinnamon oil, fir needle oil, lavandin oil, cedarwood oil, clove oil, sage oil, lemon oil, patchouli oil, bay leaf, clove powder, cinnamon powder, orange peel, lemon peel .
My Experience:
I purchased the Bay Rum sample kit for my fiancé for $6.50. In addition to the Bay Rum Soap, the kit also included Bay Rum aftershave balm, sample cologne, and the Beeswax lip balm. The kit is clear plastic with Burt’s Bees written in black ink and a zip-loc close.
My fiancé uses the Burt’s Bees Bay Rum Exfoliating Soap on his face and body. I have used it on my body, but didn’t really trust it on my face (I have sensitive, acne-prone skin). The soap produces a medium lather and gently exfoliates the skin. It does not scrape the skin or feel too harsh. My fiancé has normal skin with occasional, mild acne break-outs. We both had good results with this soap, with no irritation or over-drying.
After using Burt’s Bees Bay Rum Exfoliating Soap both my fiancé’s and my skin felt soft and smooth. The exfoliating properties of this soap work as well as other similar products. What puts this product above others is the fragrance of the Bay Rum line. The fragrance smells delicious, with notes of cinnamon, clove, and cedar. It is a warm scent that is not overpowering. After using Burt’s Bees Bay Rum Exfoliating Soap, the fragrance lasts for at least an hour or so. Layering with other Bay Rum products definitely prolongs the scent to many hours.
Parting Thoughts:
Burt’s Bees Bay Rum Exfoliating Soap cleans and softens the skin, without over-drying. The fragrance is worth using this product over others. The scent appeals to both men and women. If you’d like to give the entire Bay Rum line a try, I would highly recommend the sample kit. One caution though, you might find that you can’t stop smelling your partner’s face and neck! But this might not be a bad thing for either one of you.
