MagickCat's Full Review: Burt's Bees Beeswax Lip Balm
There was this girl in High School who always carried around copious amounts of Chap Stick, more than she could possibly ever need or ever use. During class she would pull out these tubes of wax and start applying the Chap Stick with a most annoying suction noise.
"Smack! Smack! Smack!" for half a year Chap Stick Girl drove me up the wall.
When I finally learned she had a hatred of my novelty pens, I made sure to invest in large amounts of bobbing feathery glittery and distracting writing instruments. A silent war raged between our two desks till graduation, me scribbling away and Chap Stick girl applying tube after tube of Bonne Bell.
Chap Stick Girl won installing a hate of all things Chap Stick in me, that is until I came across Burts Bees Beeswax Lip Balm.
Busy Bees
You can either buy Burts Bees Beeswax Lip Balm in a .3 oz metal tin or .15 oz plastic tube. I find the idea of putting your fingers in balm and applying it to your lips to be beyond disgusting, so for sanitary reasons I have only bought Beeswax Lip Balm in tube form.
Twisting the lip balm out is easy and after two months use the product has yet to become stuck in the tube. I use Burts Bees Beeswax Lip Balm everyday and have over half of the tube left. I know because I like to check by twisting all of the lip balm up to the very top which is where the Lip Balm gets stuck so you have to push it back down using the cap... hindsight isn't a very good idea. But I still gleefully do it.
For roughly 3 dollars stretched over 2 months and counting I would say this is pretty good value.
Mind your Beeswax
What I really like about Burt's Bees Beeswax Lip Balm is how the balm sort of melts into your lips but doesn't bleed past your lip line. I'm not sure if this is owed to the quality of Burt's Bees wax but I much prefer the flavour and consistency of Burt's Bees Beeswax Lip Balm over Badger Highland Mint Lip & Body Balm which gobs all over my lips and tastes of extra virgin olive oil, whereas Burt's stays on the vicinity of my lips and has a pleasant peppermint taste.
This white colourless Lip Balm is soft and applies easily to my lips, it isn't hard or chalky like Bonne Bells horrid chap sticks. I also like how Burt's Bees Beeswax Lip Balm doesn't have the repulsive artificialness of Bonne Bell products. I hate Bonne Bell,
Hate, hate, hate, hate Bonne Bell, in every store in every isle there is always Bonne Bell and little else in my town. I am sick of not being able to find a simple peppermint chap stick amongst the isle of pineapple kiwi strawberry goop swirl fruity flavoured Bonne Bell puke.
Thank you Burt's Bees!
The best thing about Burts Bees Beeswax Lip Balm is the lip tingling sensation this lip balm produces. Burts Bees Beeswax Lip Balm has a sort of cooling wintery effect, similar to those breath mints with the little blue and green flavour crystals. I like to think that Burts Bees Beeswax Lip Balm is improving circulation to my lips, I dont know if it is (probably not) but I sure am much more aware of my lips after applying Burts Bees Beeswax Lip Balm.
If you have used Burt's Bees Wings of Love Lipstick you will know the sensation I am talking about.
I have found over the course of two months my lips have become more polished and considerably softer.
Wax on, wax off
Paired with the wonderful peppermint (and not pukey spearmint) flavour Burt's Bees Beeswax Lip Balm is addicting. I find myself reaching for this product like it is some sort of waxy safety blanket.
The only problem I have come across while using Burt's Bees Beeswax Lip Balm is overuse. If I apply it more than 3 times a day, I wake up the next morning and my lips are sore and chapped. Also I have run across the odd clump or two in my tube of Lip Balm, this is no big deal I just cut this part off with a knife and throw it out.
I wish I had heard about Burt's Bees Lip Balm before, it is everything I ever wanted in a chap stick. Next time I go on Accutane I will be sure to buy a good supply of Burt's Bees Beeswax Lip Balm.
And as I reach for the smooth pepperminty goodness to apply to my lips for the umpteenth time I realize:
I have become Chap Stick Girl.
