marnica's Full Review: Burt's Bees Burts Bees Herbal Blemish Stick
Around Christmas time I ordered a hairdryer from drugstore.com and received a free sample of Burts Bees products. Foot crème, lotion, bath oil, masks etc…The Blemish Stick was not among these products but these samples really impressed me and prompted me to go on Burt’s Bee's web site and order some products. I came across the Blemish Stick on the sight and thought I would give it a try.
I have had problems with acne for my whole life and have used dozens of products with varying results. I am a big fan of all natural products and thought giving yet another new product a try would be a good idea. You see I never give up! I ordered the blemish stick for $8.00. This is a moderate price. I have paid much more for acne treatment and have also paid much less. This seemed reasonable and affordable.
Once I received the Blemish Stick I started using it right away. It comes in a small glass tube with a roll on applicator. It holds .30ml of a yellow liquid that is reminiscent of Good and Plenty. The directions instruct you to apply to the affected area 3-4 times a day. I have found that 3-4 times a day dries out my skin and 1-2 applications is just as effective and is less drying.
Does this product work? Absolutely. My skin has actually not been this clear in months. Does this product have drying effects? Yes. But I have found that ALL acne products do natural or not. I deal with this problem with applying a non-pore clogging moisturizer to the area several times a day and this helps a great deal. I don’t know about other people and I can only speak for myself but I would rather have a little dry skin than a bunch of unsightly pimples.
Another plus (besides that it actually helps) is that this product is 99.90% natural. I have great faith in nature’s ability to heal all kinds of things and am very interested in holistic remedies, which is why I gave this Blemish Stick a try. Mother Nature rarely lets me down. It is important to read ingredients carefully before using this however. Many people are allergic to things in nature afterall. It might be a good idea to do a little spot test to see if you have any allergic reaction. Place a small amount on the inside of your wrist or arm (this is the most sensitive area of skin) and leave on overnight. If you don’t develop a rash or mysterious bumps or anything I’d say it is safe. The following is a breakdown of the ingredients (and their purpose) in The Blemish Stick to help you all make an educated purchasing decision
Calendula Extract: Calendula officinalis of the marigold plant. This is classified as an anti-inflammatory and is often used to treat flaking, itching and weeping skin conditions. It is emollient oil that is soothing for the skin.
Eucalyptus Extract: This is thin colorless oil derived from the leaves of the Eucalyptus tree. It has anti-bacterial properties and is soothing and refreshing to the skin. It ain’t too bad for cough and colds either!!
Fennel Oil: Used for deep cleansing and to reduce inflammation.
Juniper Oil: Derived from the berries of the Juniper bush. This oil has antiseptic, detoxifying, toning and astringent properties. It is known for its ability to draw out fluids (like nasty pus from a nasty zit!!)
Lemon Oil: This is known for its astringent and anti-irritant qualities. It balances overactive sebaceous glands that lead to oily, blemished skin. It cleans and enlivens the complexion.
Parsley Extract: This increases circulation to the skin to help purify it.
SD Alcohol 40: This is distilled from yellow corn and works as a solvent.
Tea Tree Oil: This oil is known for its anti-viral, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties.
Willow Bark Extract: This contains natural beta-hydroxy acids which work as a natural exfollient to help unplug clogged pores and follicles.
Yarrow Extract: This is derived from the leaf and flower of the YarrowNa plant. It is for cleansing and toning. It has anti-inflammatory and healing properties as well. It also encourages blood flow to the skin.
Borage Extract: Anti-inflammatory. This agent is known for expelling “poisons” from the skin.
***The main ingredient in this product is purified water.
So there you have it. If you are not allergic to anything you see here and do not develop an icky rash when you do a patch test, put yourself in Mother Nature’s hands. Keep in mind that not every product works for every person. The bottom line is you won’t know if you don’t try it, and if you decide not to try it because you are tired of trying new products…you might be missing THE ONE that is the answer to your problem….never give up the search for clear skin!!!!
