azielinski's Full Review: Burt's Bees Burts Bees Herbal Blemish Stick
I don’t know what this summer was like for you but where I live it was hot and humid with some pretty poor air quality and a lot of dust (and other stuff) blowing around. Weather like that is guaranteed to take my normal/dry, small pored skin and make a mess of it. Sweat, oil, and airborne dirt do not make a good combination! I didn’t just end up with a clogged pore or two but with huge, red, painful lumps that I haven’t had since I was in my twenties (that was a while ago).
What to do?!!
Up until now I have been using the Ponds “Dots”. You peel them off a sheet and stick them on your blemishes overnight. After a night or two of this the blemish either comes to a head and starts to heal or fades away. I really like using these but have been trying to use more “natural” products so the last time I was in my local whole foods store I checked out the health and beauty aids and found Burt’s Bees Herbal Blemish Stick.
At the time I had a huge, painful lump (courtesy of the 4th of July weather) so I grabbed it and took it home to use it right away.
This Herbal Blemish Stick is not a “chapstick” like stick. It is a small glass bottle with a little roller ball at the top. You tilt the bottle to move the liquid up and then rub the roller ball on the affected area. The directions said to apply the stick to the affected area after washing.
The website (and the packaging) list the ingredients as: “SD Alcohol 40-B (from yellow corn), calendula extract, borage extract, yarrow extract, parsley extract, willow bark extract, lemon oil, fennel oil, water, tea tree oil, juniper oil, eucalyptus oil.” It smells a bit antiseptic but nice enough for a blemish remover (I am remembering how bad Clearasil used to smell.)
You are wondering how I liked this item so I will tell you. I like the natural products idea and this is 99.90% natural (according to the advertising). It works well enough. I put this on twice a day for a week. The horrible red lump shrank, stopped hurting and finally came to a head and started to heal. It also caused some peeling in the area but only a little.
On the other hand, I don’t really like the delivery system. The roller ball that you apply the product with touches your face repeatedly. That doesn’t seem like the best way to clear up a blemish. The product comes out of the stick and most of the time you end up with not enough so you reapply and end up with too much which then runs all over the place. It’s messy. Lastly, it took over a week to get to the healing stage. It seems like it would have cleared up on its own in that amount of time.
I still have my Herbal Blemish Stick but I am not using it. The next time I need something to clear up my blemishes, I will go back to my Pond’s favorite. They are cleaner and work faster.
