Dried My Hair and Smells Like Vomit... My Vote for Grossest Shampoo Ever

Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros:natural ingredients, no sodium lauryl/laureth sulfate, cleaned my hair and scalp
Cons:smells like vomit; left my hair dry, knotted, brittle, and unmanageable
The Bottom Line: Please don't buy this stuff. It's awful.
After hating my other Burt's Bees shampoo, youd think I wouldve learned my lesson and would stay away from another dud. Instead, I bought this More Moisture version and its accompanying conditioner in hopes that they would work better. I was sure I had simply just picked the wrong formula for my hair type. Boy, was I wrong!

Burts Bees More Moisture Raspberry & Brazil Nut Shampoo is touted as being 98.12% natural, pH balanced, free of sodium lauryl/laureth sulfate, paraben free, and phthalate free. It contains a slew of yummy real ingredients like coconut oil, honey, brazil nut oil, and strawberry extract (see below for full ingredients list) and claims to intensely moisturize
even the most dry, damaged hair [making it] naturally soft, silky, and beautiful. The clear, thin shampoo comes packaged in a 12 oz. plastic bottle with press-top opening and sells for $7.99 at beauty supply stores and Target.
First off, this stuff smells like vomit. I swear. Its nasty. You know that acidic taste you get in your mouth after you vomit, thats what this smells like. I asked my husband to smell it and he agreed after first turning away and cringing. Fortunately, it doesnt make my hair smell like that, but just dealing with the scent in the shower is awful. Im usually good about smelling products in the store before I buy them, but I didnt bother with this one. I havent had any bad experiences with the scent of Burts Bees products and I had my bottle-grabbing toddler in the beauty supply store with me at the time so I was a bit rushed. Man, I wish I wouldve stopped to smell the roses this time. Its disgusting. The conditioner smells even worse.
Secondly, I havent noticed anything moisturizing about this shampoo. I pour out a palmful of it and work it into my hair in the shower and it always leaves my hair knotted and looking frayed. Theres nothing more moisturizing about this formula than Burts Bees Super Shiny shampoo. Its impossible to wash this well-lathering shampoo out of my hair because it makes my tresses a pile of knots and tangles. I cant run my fingers through my hair until I put conditioner into it and even then, its difficult. Once Im out of the shower, my hair is still hard to comb or run my fingers through. Ive had to use my CHI Keratin Mist every day to reverse some of the damage. Otherwise, my dried hair ends up looking dull and brittle and is completely unmanageable. It is, however, clean. Unlike the Burts Bees Super Shiny shampoo I used, this one does not make my scalp itch or feel dirty.
Perhaps my hair has special needs. I had my originally curly thick hair thermally reconditioned (Japanese straightening) back in October and that might make it react differently to hair care products. But Ive used cheap drugstore brands on a couple of occasions and had better success than I did for the week Ive been using this pricey, supposedly gentle and moisturizing shampoo. Yes, Ive tolerated it for a week for the sake of my readers and now its going to the Land of Misfit Shampoos (aka the back of my linen closet) until I can come to terms with the fact that I spent $8 on crap
oh, sorry, vomit.
On the upside, Burt's Bees has a good return policy and I was able to mail this conditioner and the shampoo back to the company and receive a full rebate (minus shipping) within a few weeks.
