A couple of months ago, my husband asked me pick up some of his Burt's Bees Garden Tomato Complexion Soap. For some reason, every store I went to was out of the soap so I decided to just order some from drugstore.com. As luck would have it, they were offering a free tube of Burt's Bees Soap Bark and Chamomile Deep Cleansing Creme with your Burt's Bees purchase so I ordered and received my free cleanser.

And in case you were wondering what the heck soap bark is, here is the definition according to the Burt's Bees website: A natural soap that forms a lather with water, soap bark contains glucosides that gently cleanse and moisturize. Because of its mild astringent properties, it helps to cleanse pores and soothe skin.
My Experience
I was very curious about this cleanser. I am not normally a fan of cream cleansers. I like lather. Also, the name soap bark was confusing me. I just had no idea what this cleanser was going to be like.
Before I used the cleanser, I splashed some water on my face. Then I squeezed out a quarter sized amount of cleanser into my palm. The cleanser was white and looked thick. I took a sniff expecting to smell something like chamomile tea, but instead I got a much more earthy scent with a slight hint of mint. Not bad, just different than what I thought. But then, I never know what to expect when it comes to Burt's Bees products.
I rubbed the cleanser over my face. It did not lather, but it did seem to spread easily over my skin. I have had problems with cream cleansers just melting away once they hit the water, but I did not have that problem this time. The cleanser felt thick yet smooth on my skin. I really didn't miss the lather. It's a pleasant cleanser to use.
As I was cleansing my face, the edges of my lips started to tingle slightly. My entire face felt cool. Later, I realized that the product does contain menthol and it was giving my skin that cool tingly feeling. I certainly didn't mind. I enjoy mint and like products that advertise cooling or warming sensations. It was a little strange to feel tingling on my lips while I was washing my face, but it didn't last long.
I was able to rinse off the cleanser with no problem. It did not leave any residue or film on my skin.
My skin definitely felt clean and refreshed. It did a pretty good job of removing my makeup. I did use this cleanser to remove my eye makeup and it did not irritate my eyes or the skin in that area. It was able to remove most of my eye makeup, but some of the more stubborn eye liner and mascara had to be taken off with makeup remover.
The biggest plus from this cleanser is that it is incredibly moisturizing. It does not strip my skin at all. In fact, my face feels moisturized after using it. I used to apply moisturizer all over my face after washing my face. Now I just apply moisturizer to some dry spots around my nose and mouth. I don't bother putting moisturizer all over. It just isn't needed. This is the first cleanser I have ever used that moisturized my skin this much.
I have been using this cleanser for a little over a month now and am surprised at how much I like it. I really didn't expect much from it. But my skin is looking and feeling great. My skin is soft, smooth, and clean. Good job Burt's Bees!
