While I am not a shopper per se, I love perfumes and colognes. Perfume can make me feel feminine and sexy, and can even determine whether I will have a good or bad day. About three years ago a friend dragged me into the department store with her. Unlike most women I do not enjoy shopping. Apparently I am more like most men as far as shopping goes. I would prefer to shop online, or go to a store, find what I want, pay for it, and leave. However, I was helping her find something for a special occasion. While we were shopping she tried a little Calyx on her wrist, so I did the same. Both of us fell in love with it, and purchased the 1.7 oz spray. She continued to wear it for a considerable time after. I decided it was just too potent for me. I am not sure if it is the strong citrusy scents of guava and papaya that put me off, or the mossy, woodsy notes, but I stopped using the scent.

About Calyx:

Calyx was created by Prescriptives in 1986 and is recommended for romantic wear. This feminine scent possesses a blend of a fruity bouquet of guava, papaya and passion fruit with a citrusy blend. Middle notes are flowery, including jasmine, marigold, freesia and marigold. Lowest notes of moss and aromatic woods.

Even though it sounds a paradox, the perfume remains a memory for a woman or a man you have met. Often it occurs that the perfume is the explicit reason for falling in love or for a strong passion. That is why the right choice of perfume is a vitally important part of our image.

The concept of good fragrance is a subjective one, but nevertheless, in general, this fragrance should be the one, which fits best the natural odour of the skin and thus creates the distinctive feature or odour of the individual. It is all about alchemy and senses in the perfumery business.

Never choose perfume in the early morning hours, when the olfaction is weaker.

never judge for the scent directly from the phial - during evaporation the spirit anaesthetizes the olfaction and alters the sense.

Always choose your fragrance on your own - the skin of the different people reacts in a different way to the perfume.

Never test more than three to four fragrances one after another – otherwise you will not going to be able to assess them correctly.

The ideal way to test a perfume is to apply a few drops of it to your skin, to hold on for a while and then to make your choice

Remember that it is better to choose saturated, warm and sensual fragrances in the cold months and the fresh, citrus and flower ones are suitable for the summer.

What I like about it:

I do like that it is a unique scent, therefore you won't find every other woman wearing the same scent. The packaging is rather sensual and attractive.

What I don't care for:

It is too strong a scent for me at this time, and gives me a headache after about a half an hour. I prefer a lighter, fresher, more flowery sort of scent.

Final thoughts and recommendations:

If you love strong citrusy perfumes with a touch of moss, you really should try Calyx. People will stop you in the malls and on the street, as they probably won't recognize the scent. I did some research on Calyx, and some describe this perfume as romantic and some say it is casual, so I guess that it is up to the indivdual. This may sound crazy, but I find my perfume/cologne tastes change depending on the vitamins, supplements and perhaps prescription medications I may be taking at a particular time. I'm not sure if others notice this. I am giving Calyx 3 stars. You can find it at major department stores, but your best prices will definitely be online.
