Pros: Comfortable, better thigh pads than the CCM 220.
Cons: Too pricey for the level of protection.
The Bottom Line: If you can pick up a pair of these for less than $75, they might be worth it. Don't expect great high level protection though.

After playing for about a year, I actually picked up a new pair of pants when I arrived for a game and realized I had left mine hanging up to dry. Not having much time or many choices I ran to the pro shop and grabbed the only pair of pants in my size CCM 420s.
In all honesty, I had no problem with upgrading my gear, but I doubt that these were the pants I would have picked out. The 420 is a passable intermediate pant, but not much more. The thigh padding is fair and stops most shots painlessly. Once in a while the pads do shift a little bit and Ive caught a shot on nothing but the shell.
The backside of these pants is not very well padded. There is some small amount of tailbone padding but it is more show than actual armor. Sometimes it doesnt matter how well covered you are, there will be a rare puck that finds skin. In the case of these pants it is a little more often than I would like.
The nylon shell on the 420 pants is a bit heavier than the lower 220 model. The five-hole pads are solid and close nicely. They are fairly comfortable (as goalie pants go). Break in time is negligible.
Durability is, again, fair. I used these pants for a little over 2 years, playing four to six hours a week. They were close to falling apart when I replaced them at that point. One thing that I found annoying was that CCM sews their belt in place. It might seem like a good idea to keep you from losing it, but it is going to break, and it is a pain to replace.
They are a little pricey for an intermediate pant. But in a pinch (say you arrive at a game without pants) they arent the worst thing that you could buy. If you have a choice, I would look at some other pants before deciding on these.
My recommendation on these pants is that they never be used for higher than a mid-level recreational league. The padding isn't really substantial enough for anything more. CCM doesn't really make a great Goalie Pant, and certainly for the price of these you could do a lot better. I personally prefer the Itech 4.8 to this pant as it is much more protective and a bit cheaper.
The bottom line is that the CCM 420 is a very average pant at an above average price. It probably isnt worth the money you would spend on it.
