Cosmo,
It's very possible they ARE defective. I've seen quite a few skates where the holder was obviously mounted at an odd angle. You should be able to send them back to CCM under warranty. (It's 90 days on the boot and 1 year on the holder and runner). Mentioning the warranty to your retailer would be a good idea. If he doesn't want to help you, talk to someone at CCM.
Best of luck,
Scott

Thanks scott.
I thought the stitching was just a symptom of it being bent/poorly manufactured. It's not the stitching that concerns me, the blade holder is actually quite a ways off 90° to the boot. So when I do cross-overs to the right I don't get an edge with the right hand boot. Just wondering wether you'd heard of these boots ever being bent from skating. The guy who sold them to me tells me I bent them, where other people I've spoken to seem to think it's a factory defect. Was hoping to get the final word on the issue from you as you seem to have more impartial knowledge around skates than anyone else. I know it's difficult to make a definative comment one way or the other without seeing the skates, but thought maybe you'd heard of a whole bunch of other people with the same problem.
Cheers, and thanks for your comments. Cosmo

Cosmo,
It's really very common for the stitching on the boot to look crooked on skates. It doesn't always mean there is a problem though. Often the stitching that makes the boot look warped or twisted is simply cosmetic and the player's foot still sits properly. If you aren't having issues skating in them, I wouldn't worry about it.

Bent Boot (Reply to this comment)
by cosmocampbell
Hey Scott.
Thanks for all the great reviews. I bought a pair of the Pro Tacks based on your comments, and love them. They're light, responsive and a huge improvement on my 15 year old CCM's. I have had one problem with them tho' which I was wondering whether you've come across before. The right boot seems to be bent. If you're looking at the rear of the boot, towards the toe, the blade doesn't sit perpendicular to the sole plate. The blade holder seems fine, but the stitching on the back of that boot seems to be twisted as well. I've been wondering whether I could have bent the boot during play, or is this possibly some kind of manufacturing problem. The boots are still as stiff as when i first bought them, and they weren't factory seconds as far as i'm aware. Thanks, Csomo

Thanks a bunch Scott, I appreciate it. From what I can tell you were right about the outsole and liner material. The liner material for the 1052 was a silver-coloured, shiny Clarino-like fabric. Either way, it wicks moisture completely and these skates have stayed drier in comparison to skates I have had in the past.
In regards to the outsole, the 1052s seem to use stiff fiberglass opposed to the Pro Tack carbon fiber outsole. I suppose that makes my skates a little more flexible than a pro-level boot.
As far as the holder issue goes, I'll stick with your recommendation and enjoy the Prolite3 until something goes wrong. I've got a pair of e-pro holders I can slap on if the Prolite goes bad.
Thanks for letting me ramble, and keep writing those great reviews!

Aaron,
The 1052 was a pretty good skate and very comparable to the Pro Tack. CCM had so many models in 2004 that it's hard to compare them all. We didn't carry the 1052 that year and unfortunately I don't remember the specifics of what was different. I suspect it was little things like the lining and outsole material that were the major differences.
I don't know if I would bother changing out the prolite until I broke one personally. I guess it comes down to how serious you are. If you'd rather avoid the possibility completely, then yes, it makes sense to switch to the eblade now. However, I'm never that keen on dropping $100 on a pair of skates that are working personally.

2004 CCM 1052s? (Reply to this comment)
by aarondevera
Any opinion on the 2004 1052 Tacks? How would you rate them in comparison to the Pro Tacks? I just picked up a pair of 1052s for under $150 Canadian (a bargain, as far as I can tell), but they were purchased from a less-knowledgable mom n' pop shop who couldn't elaborate on any specs or give me an opinion of their own. I work in a tech-shop at a corporate sports retail store, but unfortunately management never bothers to give us the low-down on any product. I try to demo as much of the product as I can through the companies themselves, but it becomes difficult to try everything, at least to pitch my two cents to an interested customer. Thus, I ask you for an opinion I believe I can trust.
My 1052's DO skate incredibly well (I've only been doing about 4 hours a week for the past 2 months in them), but I am biased as I haven't really skated in anything other than a good 'ol CCM Tack (whose 2002 line I thankfully avoided, especially after reading your review). They're comfy, but get wet pretty fast. The Clarino lining looks and feels different from other skates that seem to use the same tech.
I do feel a little more flex in the Prolite3 holder than I would like, and I have come across customers who have indeed snapped CCM's perforated blade. Would it help much to slap on a pair of CCM's E-Pro holder, and perhaps CCM's basic performance stainless runners?
Any opinion on the specifications, maintenance, or even modification of these skates you could offer would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks a bunch.
