Pros: detangles, softens, shines, prevents breakage, no residue, smells mild
This spray is usually the only styling product I use nowadays. For years, my hair was a curly, tangled mess and I needed a ton of beauty supply help. But I recently had my hair thermally reconditioned (permanently straightened) and I now have silky, no-fuss straight hair, sort of. It still tends to look a bit flyaway sometimes and the ends can seem a bit frayed. I also worry that all the hard work (it took 5 hours for the straightening process) and money (were talking hundreds) will go to waste if I dont take some preventative measures. You see, when my hair was curly, I generally let it air dry. Now with straight hair (and the winter months fast approaching), I blow dry my hair almost every day, and not with some super, high-performing ionic hair dryer. Ive also noticed that the shampoos Ive been using havent been as moisturizing as Id like and my hair sometimes pulls when I comb through it. Since I do not want to see my hair become a pile of split ends and broken, straggly locks, Ive been using this CHI Keratin Mist after every shower.
I received my 12 oz. short plastic bottle of CHI Keratin Mist from my stylist as a sort of freebie benefit for having my hair straightened. I also received a bottle of CHI Silk Infusion and a shampoo and conditioner. All of those are nice, and reviews are on their way, but none performs as well as this spray.
CHI Keratin Mist is a leave-in treatment manufactured by Farouk, makers of BioSilk and the often-raved-about-but-oh-so-expensive CHI flat iron. It is intended to strengthen hair and leave it soft and manageable. The bottle doesnt specify if its meant for wet or dry hair (and I cant remember how my hair stylist used it), but Ive only used it on wet hair. I received my bottle directly from my hair stylist, but Ive seen this sold online ($10.95 for 12 ounces, $25 for 32 ounces) and I believe its sold at beauty supply stores.
Rosewater, dicetyldimonium chloride, cocodimonium hydroxypropyl silk amino acids, acetamide MEA (and) lactamide MEA, hydrolyzed wheat protein, lauryl pyrrolidone, panthenol, propylene glycol, diazolidinyl urea, methylparaben, propylparaben, methylchloroisothiazolinone (and) methylisothiazolinone, nettle, chamomile extract, algae, aloe vera, lavender extract, rosemary extract, parfum, FD&C yellow 5, D&C red 33, zinc oxide, titanium dioxide, mica, boron nitride powder
After I towel dry my hair, I spray this several times and then run my fingers or a comb through my hair to evenly spread the solution. It instantly makes my hair more manageable. Though Im fairly content with the shampoos and conditioners Ive been using lately, they tend to leave my hair feeling kind of tight and stressed (and a little dry) when I first step out of the shower. It makes it difficult to comb my hair without getting snags (and possibly breakage). But after spraying this Keratin Mist, my knots and tangles are gone and my hair feels soft and silky. I can easily run my fingers through my hair and it feels so smooth.
It tends to dry that way, too. I still get some flyaway or pointy strands that I use the Silk Infusion on, but I dont have any problems with tangles. It also seems to give my hair a little extra luster. I skipped the Mist a few times and noticed my hair looked a little more tousled and dull afterward. So Ive pretty much religiously used it ever since.
Unlike the Silk Infusion, the Keratin Mist does not make my hair greasy. It feels very light and I dont even notice its on my hair. By the end of the day, or even by the next morning, my hair still feels light and clean (as long as I dont use the Silk Infusion, too).
The scent is very light. Its kind of a very faint lavender or baby powder scent, but I cant quite pinpoint it. Its pleasant and doesnt overpower me or any other scents I wear. In fact, the scent goes away pretty quickly and my hair just smells clean.
The one thing my hair stylist mentioned when she handed me my bottle of Keratin Mist was that the bottle seems to suck itself in as you use it. I didnt think it mattered, but its kind of a good thing since the indent gives my hand some place to rest.
Im happy with my CHI Keratin Mist. It makes my hair strong, soft, and shiny. It doesnt leave any residue and it smells pleasant. This is the one CHI product I actually may continue to use after my freebie package runs out.
