| Kallisti's Full Review: Peterson's 2002 Clep Success Books |
Those planning on taking the CLEP tests would do well to avoid CLEP Success by Peterson's Publishing. Of all the CLEP study guides available, I've found this one to be the least useful, the most confusing and the most poorly edited.
The sample tests are difficult to grade thanks to an awkward answer section; the examples of possible test questions tend to be more confusiong than any you would find on the CLEP and I found a few instances where the alleged "correct answers" supplied were wrong. For example, the editors seem to consider Marc Chagall a "surrealist" in their version of the Humanities test and in one muddled example in the English Composition course suggest that a four sentence paragraph should be connected to the following paragraph by inserting a connecting sentence after the 3rd sentence in paragraph one. Obviously the proofreader should have caught the mistake and changed "sentence 3" to "sentence 4", but apparently Peterson's is hiring editors who would, apparently, fail the CLEP tests in English Composition themselves.
Try the Princeton Review "Cracking the CLEP" and the 'official" CLEP study guide by The College Board.
Peterson's should stick with Motor Trend and whatever else they publish and aviod the study materials market.
