The Best Flat Iron for a Good Price

Written: Aug 29 '04 (Updated Jan 02 '05)
Pros:heats fast, straightens well, adds shine, 25 temp. settings
Cons:split ends quickly
The Bottom Line: This straightener is great for someone on a budget. I highly recommend it.

My old sharperimage iron was the first I had ever bought. I thought all irons were like it, needing 30mins to heat up and barely straightening my thick, unruly hair. It's straight but puffy and tends to get a bit wavy. After deciding not to put up with my old iron anymore, I went in search of a cheap alternative.

Claims:
-2" Extra wide plates with new ceramic technology leaves hair silky smooth, reduces flyaways and eliminates damaging hot spots by distributing heat evenly
-60 Second instant heat-up
-Uniform Heat Recovery System restores the plate temperature to the optimum level for consistent results every time
-25 Variable heat settings for every type of hair
-On/Off touch pad with auto shut-off
-Power "on" indicator light
-Worldwide dual voltage
-Includes: Nylon detachable comb to keep hair taut & boar/nylon bristle attachment for final polish and added shine
-Auto shut-off
-Two year limited warranty

The Product: The Conair CS19CS is a typical flat iron. It is black with ceramic-coated plates. I don't like that very much, since the ceramic coating can wear away, exposing my hair to the metal plates underneath. But anyway, the plates are 2" which I love. It makes it faster to straighten my hair since I can do more at one time. The comb and brush are easy to attach and take out and are great at detangling my hair.

There is also 25 heat settings, 1 being the least hot and 25 being really hot. I use about 15-20 since my hair is so incredibly thick.

My favorite part of the iron is how hot it gets in such a short amount of time. Contrary to their claims, it takes about 2-3 minutes to get the iron started when you first plug it in, but it's not exactly making me cry. It takes about 5-10 minutes to do my hair, while it took 20-30 minutes with my old flat iron.

I paid almost 30$ for this iron and I don't regret it. The results it gives me (without any styling products)are beautiful. My hair is straight and silky, with minimal frizz. It also really shows off my layers, for some reason too.

Note: Split ends are unavoidable, and this iron doesn't exactly help. Using it daily will ravage your hair so I strongly advise using it sparingly.

All in all, I would recommend this to everyone - thick hair, curly hair, coarse, frizzy, everyone. It's an awesome product for the price and Conair offers a 2 year warranty as well. Try it now if you've been disappointed before.
