| bablondie25's Full Review: Conair Heated Lotion Dispenser |
Conair has an old version of this and the newer version has a few more upgrades that make it even better (but the price is also higher). I bought this Conair Heated Lotion Dispenser for the sole fact that I like to pamper myself during cold, winter months. I get really cold and I like things to keep me warm. This cost me around $15 at Target, but now are selling for $21.99 at Target.com. I'm not sure if it's worth that price for such a simple device, but it does make a nice Christmas gift for someone who is a bit on the chilly side.
There are some good sides to this and some not so good. The old version takes a long time to heat up, so they remedied that with the newer version, taking only 2 minutes to warm (so that's good). The downside is that when you want to use lotion immediately, you'll need to plug it in and turn it on and wait. It's ideal to use after a warm shower; you just turn it on, set the heat level you want, and then after your shower it will be warm. You can turn the dial from low to high, and you'll have to get to know your own lotion warmer to figure out which is your favorite level. Personally, I like it higher and it never gets "too hot".
As far as storage, it has a cord so that gets in the way when I keep it out on a counter. If I put it away in a cupboard, I forget about it. So I do not no a good way to store it. Mostly, I'll keep it on my counter in the bathroom during winter months and try to wrap up the cord a bit to keep it out of the way.
The bottom cup holds up to 1 pound of lotion, it separates from the top of the unit, and you can put it in the dishwasher or wash it by hand. This is a good option because I'll use one scent of lotion, then want to switch and I don't want my old lotion's scent to mix with the new scent. A downside is that you cannot wash the pump part. So every year, I will wipe the spout where it comes out, wipe around the top (underneath) and then pump put the old lotion still stuck in the pump into the garbage. I have not tried soapy water in the cup and pumping it through, but I'll consider it, because there is no way to clean out the pump part. What happens is I'll use this in the winter, there will be a little lotion left, it goes into the cupboard and I forget about it all year, until next year. Then when I pull it out, the lotion has hardened and crystallized. So then I have to wash the bottom cup out and try to clean out the pump part as much as possible.
For the top part; the pump is easy to use. You just put on and twist closed (it'll say lock and unlock) on the side of the cup holder part. There is a dial to set the heat level. A light will go on when it's plugged in and it has an automatic 1-hour shut off so it doesn't overheat. There is an on and off button. These are new features compared to the old version. The old version you had to unplug (it didn't have automatic shut-off) and it didn't have a heat dial, it was the same heat no matter what. Now the lotion that comes out will be runnier than you're used to. I just use average lotion (not creams, not body butters, they won't come out of the pump good enough), but just run-of-the-mill lotions you would find in a bottle or pump at a department or drugstore. For example I have used Jergen's Cherry Almond, Watkin's Natural Lemon Lotion, Philosophy's Baby Grace, and so on. Once in awhile, you'll notice a drip of lotion on your counter after you walk away from it. That's probably because the lotion turns runny and drips out of the pump part after cooling down. It's really not a big deal. A downside would be that you can't switch from lotion to lotion, you need to stick to one type of lotion until you use it, wash out the cup and use a different lotion.
You could also just warm up your lotion in your hands before putting it on your body, but this is much warmer than your hands. I wouldn't recommend warming up lotion in the microwave, so this is a much safer and better option. I go "ahhh" when I put it on and it makes the scent come out more in my opinion. It's really no effort to depress the pump and a good half dollar-size of lotion comes out onto the hand. Overall, this makes a pretty good, luxurious Christmas gift for people who are consistently cold.
