When it comes to products that really perform well above and beyond the call of duty...I tend to get mighty passionate...just in case you haven't guessed it yet after 200+ reviews.! And so it is with this simplest of product up for your consideration here.
You may have noticed that I haven't been too active here on EPINIONS recently. That is because I am quite involved with a couple of major projects in my personal life. One being getting into shape physically while the other being the complete resurrection of a 1995 Dodge Neon automobile formerly owned by my dear departed little sis.
The car had laid dormant for about six years now. I recently decided...obviously after much procrastination...to get the old gal running again. One of the first things I felt necessary to take into consideration was the electrical system. Besides needing a new alternator, battery and some bulbs...it required some...welll...TLC!!
I decided that after five or six years of sleep...it might be a good idea to wake Rip Van Winkle by cleaning and de-oxidizing the major contactcs so as to prevent a possible fire and to peak the performance in general. Enter NAPA and CRC.
I walked into the local NAPA Auto Parts store one fine gorgeous day in October to purchase a few items I would need to resurrect an old 1995 red Dodge Neon that had been sitting in the driveway for almost six years...unattended. The car had been originally owned by my dear departed lil' sis and was in need of attention but I hadn't the time or the money to give it its just pampering.
Now I at least had some cash put aside for the great undertaking of the project and started off with a universal battery, lubricant and a can of CRC electronic contact cleaner. When an automobile sits that long...you need to be prepared for almost anything {Murphy's Law in full bloom here} but you must also figure that electrical connections may have a bit of rust or oxidation on them.
Having used the product in the past for quite some time as a full-fledged backyard mechanic...I decided on a good sized 11 oz. can with red straw that can be attached to the nozzle for finer concentration on a given part. Spraying CRC into the too numerous various electrical connectors will work wonders here and did indeed do so for the little red Neon.
What I like about CRC is that it works almost immediately and does not normally require a whole lotta sitting time to work its magic. Contacts basically look brand spankin' new after a couple of good sprays without ugly residue or blemish.
Not only did the fangled stuff work wonders for the car but then I decided to try it on my Dual/PE 1200 series headshell for my turntable which required cleaning every six weeks or so due to the extreme temperatures and changing humidity we experience here in the Northeast. My ritual included the use of a cotton swab loaded and dowsed with rubbing alcohol or witch hazel. No more! CRC has kept it clean for over four months now without the need for further attention.
Suffice it to say that this is five or six bucks well spent. If you accidently get some on your skin when in use...it just doesn't seem to irritate but a simple paper towel and washing may be required for those of us with much fairer skin than I. It does give a "cold" sensation not unlike freon tape head cleaner.
In short...CRC Electronic Cleaner is the best bang for the buck when it comes to keeping electrical contacts of all types clean and working like new. Ahh...rejuvenation!!! There indeed is a beauty in simplicity!
