Pros: Controls tooth sensitivity; Good cleaning ability
Cons: The overall taste; High Price; Multiple warnings are a concern
Do you cringe at the mere thought of eating or drinking something hot or cold? Sensitive teeth are the result of several factors and a sizable percentage of the adult population suffers from this annoyance. But there are some easy cures to the problem and one of them is Crest Sensitivity Extra Whitening Clean Mint Toothpaste.
Toothpaste Facts and Figures:
Crest Sensitivity Extra Whitening Clean Mint Toothpaste is an oral care product clinically proven to reduce tooth sensitivity. Regular brushing with this toothpaste helps reduce sensitivity to hot, cold, sweets, acids, or regular contact.
Crest Sensitivity Extra Whitening Clean Mint Toothpaste does more than just protect against sensitivity. This toothpaste contains fluoride for cavity protection and has ingredients that help to remove plaque, freshen breath, polish the teeth, and whiten. The manufacturer recommends brushing with this product twice per day for at least one minute each time, making sure to apply the paste thoroughly on tooth surfaces most prone to sensitivity issues.
Crest Sensitivity Extra Whitening Clean Mint Toothpaste is made with the active ingredients Potassium Nitrate (5%) (Purpose:toothpaste for sensitive teeth), and Sodium Fluoride (0.243%) (Purpose:toothpaste for cavity protection). Inactive ingredients include Water, Hydrated Silica, Glycerin, Sorbitol, Trisodium Phosphate, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Flavor, Cellulose Gum, Alcohol (1.09%), Xanthan Gum, Sodium Saccharin, Sucralose, Polysorbate 80, Sodium Benzoate, Cetyl Pyridinium Chloride, Benzoic Acid, Polyethylene, Titanium Dioxide, and Blue 1 Lake (CI 42090).
Crest Sensitivity Extra Whitening Clean Mint Toothpaste is an effective product in the fight against tooth sensitivity. This problem has several possible causes, but most of the time, it is associated with exposed dentin in the teeth. This is like having an exposed nerve, and it is the reason why people with sensitive teeth often cannot bear to eat or drink certain foods or beverages.
I don’t have a severe case of sensitive teeth, but I do have some issues and this is why I use these types of toothpaste products on occasion. My sensitivity is mainly to cold foods and the problem is spread around to most of my teeth. Given my love of ice cream, cold beer, and other cold food/drink, I can sometimes experience discomfort and this is why I use toothpastes like this one on a fairly regular basis.
Crest Sensitivity Extra Whitening Clean Mint Toothpaste is just one of many different sensitive teeth tooth care products and while I have tried several of them, I often will gravitate toward Crest because I have always had good success with and trust in the Crest name. And I am happy to report that this particular Crest product is yet another mark of quality. It takes care of the problems it claims to take care of, reducing sensitivity and leaving the mouth feeling reasonably fresh.
I like that Crest Sensitivity Extra Whitening Clean Mint Toothpaste contains fluoride and tooth polishing/whitening ingredients, but the main reason to buy it and use it is for its ability to reduce sensitivity. My experience has shown that this product does work, but it takes several days of treatment before the effects are widespread. With each passing day, you can feel the problem diminish and that means no more pain when eating ice cream, hot coffee, cold beer, or other products. I have noticed that my front teeth seem to experience the most relief in the shortest amount of time, but I think the reason is because I tend to spend more time brushing my front teeth than my back teeth. With equal time spent brushing all teeth, the elimination of sensitivity should be more or less uniform throughout the mouth.
Crest Sensitivity Extra Whitening Clean Mint Toothpaste is minty in flavor, but it isn’t as freshly minty as some of the more popular, non- sensitivity brands. The flavor is mostly minty, but there is a certain chemical dimension to the taste that will turn off some consumers who want their toothpastes to taste as fresh and mint- like as possible. I find it okay, but I know that some people will not like the chemical dimension of the flavor.
Crest Sensitivity Extra Whitening Clean Mint Toothpaste does the job one would expect it to do, but after reading the label, I am a little concerned about over- using a product such as this. There are all sorts of warnings that are cause for concern, like the warning to call a poison control center if you swallow an amount greater than the usual amount needed for a round of brushing. Or the warning not to use this product continuously for more than four weeks. Or the warning not to let children under the age of twelve use it at all. These warnings seem a little scary, and they make me question the overall safety of this product. I have trust in the Crest brand and I am fairly confident that nothing bad will happen, but I admit that I don’t use a product like this for very many consecutive days and the warnings on the label are the reason. I alternate with regular toothpaste and use only when sensitivity returns.
Overall, I find Crest Sensitivity Extra Whitening Clean Mint Toothpaste an effective tooth care product that works well in the fight against sensitive teeth. The flavor isn’t as fresh as I would like, the cost per tube is a tad much, and the warnings make the toothpaste sound more like a tube of toxic waste than a tooth care product. But this toothpaste works well, both at cleaning, whitening, and at eliminating sensitive tooth problems and these reasons alone make it worthy of a purchase.
