When I first saw the advertisements for Crest Whitestrips I couldn't wait to get my hands on them. However, my husband balked at the idea of spending $40.00 on an at home whitening system. We had tried others with little success and he couldn't see spending more money on another one. As the popularity of Crest Whitestrips began to die down some, the price dropped a bit. Mind you it was only a tiny bit, but with my five dollar coupon in hand I finally managed to convince my husband that it was at least worth a shot!
~*~Cost~*~:
I purchased my package of Crest Whitestrips at my local Wal-Mart for $36.97. I had a coupon for $5.00 off so I actually got my package for nearly $32.00 with tax. I have seen this product at other discount stores for around the same price. It is also carried in some pharmacy chains, although the prices are a little bit higher in those locations.
~*~Product Description~*~:
A package of Crest Whitestrips contains 56 tooth whitening strips, 28 for the upper teeth and 28 for the lower ones. The box is blue and semi transparent. The strips are separated, with the upper ones fitting snugly on the left side of the box and the lower ones on the right. The strips are held in place by a piece of cardboard. Each strip is separately packaged in an easy to tear pouch. The upper strips are in a blue pouch while the lower strips are in a white pouch.
The Crest Whitestrips System is a lot different than the other whitening systems on the market. Instead of a lot of gels and toothpastes that you have to apply, sometimes for 45 minutes or more, the strips contain the correct amount of whitening gel. No messy applicators or retainer type contraptions are necessary.
The strips themselves are clear with tiny bumps all over. One side contains the whitening gel. The strips are on a thin piece of plastic and are easy to remove. The strips are rather flimsy, so be prepared to get a little bit of the whitening gel on you the first few times!
~*~How They Work~*~:
Crest Whitestrips are to be applied twice a day for thirty minute intervals. Crest has a money back guarantee, so if you aren't satisfied with how the Crest Whitestrips work, you can return the lower strips for a full refund. This of course means that the upper strips are to be applied first, before you ever apply the lower ones.
Crest states that you should not brush your teeth before applying the Whitestrips. I accidentally brushed the first time, but I didn't notice any difference in that application and my later ones. To apply the Whitestrips you simply peel the strip from the plastic piece. You then smile as wide as possible and carefully apply the strip to the teeth. This can be a little tricky the first few times since the gel will make the strip slide a bit on the teeth. Once the strip is aligned with the gum line you simply fold the remaining amount of strip under the teeth to secure it (or, when doing lower, over the teeth).
I applied my Crest Whitestrips in the morning when getting ready, and found this to be a pretty convenient time. I would apply them again in the evening. However, applying lipstick, or wiping the mouth in anyway can cause the strips to slide a bit, leaving a rather gooey mess in the mouth. It is important not to eat or drink when using the strips. After 30 minutes you simply remove the strips and brush your teeth to get the remaining gel off. The whitening gel removes easily and leaves no residue on teeth.
It didn't take quite fourteen days for me to notice somewhat of an improvement. My teeth were not extremely discolored, which might be why I saw results sooner, I'm not sure. The results aren't drastic right away, but by the time I had used all of my Crest Whitestrips even my husband could tell a difference. I liked how much brighter my smile looked. I also noticed that just in the time it took to use the upper strips I could tell a difference between my upper and lower teeth. Crest states on the box of their product that if teeth are very discolored, more than one box of Crest Whitestrips might be necessary.
Once I finished my box of Crest Whitestrips my husband wanted his own box. (I love it when I'm right!) Once more we found ourselves quite satisfied with this product. My husband's teeth looked much whiter and brighter, and we could tell a difference before the fourteen days.
Crest Whitestrips uses enamel safe ingredients but warns on the box that sensitivity may occur when using the strips. My husband was a bit worried at first, because his teeth are pretty sensitive. However, neither of us experienced any sensitivity.
The only thing I didn't like about this product was the way the whitening gel tasted. It wouldn't keep me from using this product again, but I just wish they could make it taste like mint or something! The taste wasn't horrible, but, I tried my hardest to avoid getting any of the gel on my tongue.
Crest suggests using the Crest Whitestrips every six months to maintain the desired whiteness. It hasn't been nearly six months for us, and our teeth still look bright and white. Crest Whitestrips will only work on natural teeth, no caps, false teeth or crowns.
~*~Overall Opinion~*~:
My husband and I were very satisfied with Crest Whitestrips. The whitening system is easy to use and not nearly as time consuming as other systems are. We both saw our whiter smiles coming through before the guaranteed fourteen days. Our whiter smiles are still present, and we wouldn't hesitate purchasing this product again when the time comes.
