| evans_mom's Full Review: Ct International Idea Dresser Bathinet |
We searched high and low for a good changing table. I am fairly tall (5"9"), and most of the changing tables were too low for me. We were about to give up and build a wooden box to go under a regular change table to make it taller), when we found this wonderful item.
This "bathinet" (also known as the CAM ASIA change table - CAM is an Italian children's product manufacturer) is wonderful. If is a great height for changing and dressing the baby. There are four good-sized drawers underneath where you can store diapers, baby towels, etc. This is great if you (like me) are not the neatest person on earth. Everything looks tidy when it is in closed drawers - no need to worry about folding everything perfectly to make it look presentable.
The bathinet also has a plastic bin that attaches to the side of the table to keep wipes and diaper cream handy. You can put it on whatever side works for you.
The best part about this changing table is that the lid opens up and there is a great baby bathtub inside. The lid tips back quite far, so there's no risk that it will fall back down. The whole thing is on wheels, so you just pull it away from the wall a bit to let the lid tip all the way back.
The baby bathtub is well-designed. There is a "bump" in the middle that works very well. When the baby is "sitting" in the tub, he is semi-reclined and his bottom rests against the bump. This is very effective in preventing the baby from slipping down in the tub. If you want to immerse baby's whole body, you slide his bottom over the bump and then the bump falls right at shoulder level and helps hold up his upper body. It is an excellent tub - bathtime is a snap even when the baby is very small.
The tub has a drain that is connected to a drain hose. Pull the plug in the tub and the water runs out the drain hose into a waiting bucket. Then all it takes is a quick wipe of the inside of the tub, close the top, put on jammies, and baby is off to bed.
I will note that the changing pad on top of the unit does not have a safety strap. I've never found those particularly useful, as my little guy is pretty squirmy. I keep one hand on my guy at all times, and we've had no difficulty. The change pad is covered in vinyl and is deeply sloped on both sides, so it would take a pretty hard roll to get over.
In the picture, the change pad is plain white. Mine has teddy bears on it and the whole unit is a lighter wood colour.
The pad comes right off the unit for cleaning. You can buy lots of different cloth covers for the change pad (Piccolo Bambino has the nicest ones), and I find those useful, as the vinyl can get cold on the baby's bottom.
As the pad, bathtub, drain hose and side bin all remove completely from the unit, you could use this later as a stand-alone chest of drawers. It's not going to be the most beautiful piece of furniture in your house, but it would work in a kid's room.
