Who doesnt like to watch magic shows? They are spellbinding and captivating. I think every kid at one time or another wants to be a magician. Well Cadaco ® has made a Magicians Cape, Hat & Wand Tricks toy. Santa just happened to have this under the tree for my son this year. The magician Marshall Brodien adds his name to this toy. Supposedly hes a world famous magician. I personally have never heard of him but the toy is fun.
Included in this magic kit are a magicians wand, cape and hat. You also get an instructions booklet with simple instructions to perform the illusions and illustrations to help aid your understanding of how to perform the trick. You also get a flesh colored thumb cover with a suction cup, a clear quarter disk, clear cup, a few playing cards some are regular cards such as an ace others are blank, a card box which is open in the back (magic card box).
When we opened up the kit we discovered that the suction cup for the flesh colored thumb cover was missing. The company provides a Website http://www.cadaco.com at the site you can access their email. I emailed them to tell them about the missing peace within a day I received an email telling me they where sending the missing piece. Within a week my son had received the suction cup plus an additional cover. I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly the company responded and got us the missing item. My son and I where happy with the kit before but the speedy correspondence and the effort to fix the problem quickly made the kit even better in our eyes.
Now a little more about the instruction booklet they provide instructions on 25 illusions to perform and astonish your family and friends. An example of the instructions and layout of the book follows:
Rising wand in vase
Materials: magic wand/transparent nylon thread (or black thread)- about 18-20 inches in length*/flower vase or soda bottle*/clear plastic tape*/any safety pin*
Trick: A magic wand mysteriously rises out of a vase/bottle!
The Secret: The wand is pulled form the vase by a piece of thread.
Secret Setup: Tape the thread to one end of the wand. Tie a safety pin to the other end of the thread. Pin it to the inside of the waistband on your pants. Place the wand into one of your suit coat or pants pockets.
Show:
1. Put the wand in the bottle/vase with the thread end down.
2. Pick up the bottle, and slowly move it away from you.
3. The wand appears to rise form the bottle
As I commented the instructions are fairly easy to read and follow. The tricks take time to learn and patience which my son doesnt always have. However, it helps him learn to stay with a task and maybe learn some patience along the way. The * in the materials needed section means the item is not included in the kit.
A few of the other tricks included in the booklet are one dollar to ten dollars, wish I could do this trick with my income share (LOL), magnetized wand, Wand form card case, vanishing quarter, ring on wand, magic wand, quarter to dime, one dollar to four quarters, torn & restored ad, torn and restored card, magic printer, trading places, ace and three mystery, why3? Card box, four cards and packet, changing diamonds, wand from card case, floating device, appearing candy from hat, floating hat, stuffed animal from hat, and color changing tissue. The magnetized wand trick is really easy we managed to master this one in a few tries. Another plus for the kit because it has some simple tricks which are fairly easy to master and help encourage the child (no matter what age, yes Dad is getting a charge out of this toy also) to continue on.
The items included in the kit are rather cheaply made so treating them roughly will quickly destroy the items. The cape is very thin fabric and I imagine will be torn fairly soon I am surprised it has not occurred yet. The majority of the other items are cheap plastic except the magic card box, which is made of very flimsy cardboard. My son so far has treated them well and realizes that if he is rough with the items he will break and no magic show will happen. I am proud of how well he is doing with this.
I would also add that the kit is suggested for children ages 6+ and I agree I think younger children will get frustrated and not understand how to do the tricks. Also some of the items are small so if you have infants and young toddlers around I would be careful because choking hazards are present with this kit.
My final thoughts are that this is a fun toy for the age group of 6-9 some 10 year-olds might enjoy it also. I would say that this is an activity to be done with an adult for the younger children. You definitely will need to encourage and support the child as he/she is learning the tricks. I know my son thinks he should be perfect right off the bat and needs a little encouragement. I do recommend this kit for some fun. I know it was selling for $7.99 at Marshalls dept. store. For this price the kit is well worth getting for your aspiring magician. I think it will also provide for fun with the family when the child puts on the magic show. Cant we all use some fun family time together?
Thanks for reading and I hope you found this review helpful in someway.
