Caesar's, excellent resort

Written: Apr 22 '01
Pros:Best pool on the strip, Forum shops
Cons:A long walk to everything
The Bottom Line: A few changes and upgrades are needed but I would still feel confident recommending Caesar's to friends and family.

Last week, my family and I traveled to Las Vegas during school break. During a trip to Vegas ten years ago, we had stayed at the Excalibur- this time I wanted to upgrade to an upscale hotel. On the recommendation of friends, as well as an excellent package price from Expedia, we chose Caesar's Palace for this excursion.
From the outside, Caesar's is dazzling. The resort, with its two towers, casino building, and Forum shops mall compliments the Las Vegas strip skyline. And unlike the Flamingo across the street, Caesar's does not use the gawdy, ugly flashing lights to attract attention.
The Forum shops mall is filled with numerous shops and restaurants including Planet Hollywood. One of the best aspects of Caesar's Palace is the swimming pool area. Spacious, spotless, and sunsplashed. My wife, a sunbathing "expert," had nothing but good things to say about the pool area and its amenities. Word of caution: for parents with young children, European topless sunbathing is allowed at the Venus pool, though the area is somewhat shielded from the main pool.
Caesar's casino is showing signs of age and could use a "rehab." A non-smoking casino area would be a real plus too. Better signs would help guests get "to and fro." The resort is enourmous and it's very easy to get disoriented.
Finally, try to avoid the rooms in the Roman Tower. They are definitely on the "smallish" size. And one suggestion for Caesar's manangement if you're reading this: add television stations. I realize the ultimate goal of Vegas resorts is to keep guests out of their rooms and in the casinos. But with children in attendance, especially a teenager, lack of HBO, MTV, etc. creates a real nighttime hardship for parents.
Overall, Caesar's Palace is a fine resort and I would stay there again, as well as recommending it to friends and family.
