Cafe des Artistes, 1 West 67th Street, Manhattan, just off Central Park West, is where you go with people who are dear to you. Whether it is your best friend(s), your favorite niece, or your special partner, this is the place for you. Some restaurants have atmosphere and beauty, but average food, some have wonderful food, but attitude or so-so atmosphere, but Cafe des Artistes is near perfect.
When you go there, whether for brunch, lunch, or a special dinner, some of the people around you will be (or look) famous, but not to worry. You will be treated as respectfully and caringly as everyone else. Each time I have gone to this restaurant, the service has been superb.
The food is Continental, with a French accent. I particularly loved the Veal Francese, but remember each meal there fondly. A special treat is the elegant Sunday brunch. Food is gourmet quality, yet serves as "comfort" food as well!
A special word about the desserts...suffice it to say that one is reminded of childhood, when you wanted to eat dessert first, so that the meal wouldn't ruin your appetite for those treats!
Reservations are essential, especially on a weekend. Try to book at least 2-3 weeks before your desired date. Hint: lunch on weekdays is a bit less expensive than any time on the weekends.
Cafe des Artistes is expensive, but worth the price, and not as outrageously pricey as some other New York must-go places.
