What? What is this?
Just taste it. Trust me.
So I did.
What's it taste like?
Pea-flavored Bugles.
And I liked Bugles. And I liked peas. But together? Something was up. That was a combination that wasn't meant to be together.
What is this?
It ended up being something called, Calbee Snack Salad Snapea Crisps, Original Flavor.
Huh?
It was shaped like a pea - tasted like a pea - but had no peas (that I could see) inside of it.
Calbee Snack Salad Snapea Crisps, is a very unique product. The name makes it sound like it's something that you should add to your salad but the shape and the taste of it leads you to believe that it is a snack food - like Bugles.
I studied it - curiously. I couldn't figure it out. So off to the website I went.
The company - SnackSalad - is quite proud of their invention.
Apparently, what I was eating was a product made from high quality sun-dried peas, baked (not fried), and contain lots of good things like 17% vegetable protein and 8% fiber that comes mostly from the skin of the peas.
I've never actually added them to my salad, so I can't speak to how it tastes with other veggies and/or how it stands up next to moisture.
22 of these things = 150 calories. I find that this amount seems to curb my salty cravings (which is a good thing). I've cut back on the number of other salty snacks (like Doritos and Pringles) because these end up making me crave less (in the end) and I manage to get some nutritional value out of them. Also, I've never experienced any digestive issues or any bad aftertaste with this product (which is a good thing).
The price works for me. I can get 12 bags for around $1.35 a piece from Amazon.
The one thing that bothers me about their packaging is that they don't come in a resealable bag. As long as I keep them clipped closed, they stay fresh and tasty. Aside from the packaging - this is one which I'll continue to purchase and eat for as long as they hit the spot.
