Pros: Clean, quiet and fun atmosphere
Cons: not central to town for those who like to be in the thick of things.
The Bottom Line: Highly recommend it for a little retro 60's getaway at a great price.

| protonsmom's Full Review: Caliente Tropics Resort |
My husband and I just got home from a great little weekend get away to Palm Springs. We got a great online rate ($69 per night) for two nights at the Caliente Tropics Resort and jumped at the oppratunity. We have a home from this era (early 60's) and love the Tiki decor of that age.
This motor lodge is one of the original Tiki motels built by Ken Kimes in the 1960's. It has been lovingly restored in the last few years.
Rooms: We had a nice spacious room on the second floor with a King size bed. The bed and bedding as comfortable. There was in room coffee and a small fridge. Very clean room with nice Polynesian decor. TV had basic cable. The bathroom was equipped with a large shower but no bath tub. The larger suites may have tubs but I am not sure. They also offer rooms where you can bring pets for an additional $15 per night. All rooms are non-smoking.
Pool: The "T" shaped pool is HUGE and was a nice temp. The pool grounds are surrounded by gas torches and tiki gods amongst the flowerbeds. Beautiful place to hang out and relax. Also there is a large jacuzzi.
Resturant: Sad to say the resturaunt is Mexican food which does not fit with the theme of the resort but the food was very good. Margaritas were overpriced at $13 but the rest of the meal was reasonable.
Bar: The Reef bar is still there in it's original state but I believe it is just used by the restaurant to make margaritas. We wandered in there to find it empty and no one behind the bar. I would have loved to have sat in there and had a few drinks.
Lobby and Staff: Everyone we dealt with was very friendly. Check in and out were quick and easy.
Parking: No problems, lots of space right outside of your room. I never heard cars pulling in or out, very quiet rooms.
You are about a mile south of town but it is a easy jaunt up the street. Denny's is next door if you want and a block away is another diner as well as a nice Japanese place for a fancy meal.
