I wish I hadn’t discovered California Natural Chicken Meal and Rice Dry at all. Why? Because, when I didn't know about it, I didn't know what I was missing. Now I know. I know it's the healthiest and best choice for my dog but very difficult to find. What's that old saying? What you don't know won't hurt you?
We have a three year old Sheltie named Jesse (looks like a miniature Collie). The only dog food he’s ever liked is Kibbles ‘n Bits and has stubbornly refused any other brand offered to him until California Natural Chicken Meal and Rice Dry which was discovered quite by accident.
We were visiting friends in another town fairly close to ours and took him with us, although we’ve never really taken him anywhere with us before, except to his Vet. We decided he needed to be socialized more as he reverts into a mule and refuses to step off the curb in the front yard when we’ve attempted to walk him on a leash, even though he does love his backyard.
Our friends feed their two dogs California Natural Chicken Meal and Rice Dry. Even though we took Jesse’s food with us, he ever-so-rudely helped himself to his little friend’s supper the first evening. That was it. To our surprise he loved it.

It’s true that unnecessary ingredients and protein fillers can cause sensitivities and allergies such as skin problems and poor coat, digestive upset and vomiting and even diarrhea leading to dehydration and anemia. My eleven year old cat "Flash" has some sensitivities. Pet food ingredients that can cause sensitivities are: beef and beef byproducts; pork; glutens, such as wheat and corn and/or corn oil; milk; eggs; yeast and brewer’s yeast; wheat and fish and/or fish oils.
The California Natural line also offers regular formula in a can which is great for mixing with the regular dry; Natural Healthbar biscuits; a dry formula Natural Puppy and a dry formula Natural Reduced Calorie for dogs with weight problems and the older more inactive dog. They also offer a California Natural for cats dry formula.
Innova is the most common brand of Natura Pet Product’s which offers dog and cat foods which are made with whole ingredients from each of the five main food groups; lean meats, wholesome fruits, vegetables, whole grains, potatoes, milk and cottage cheese which provides a balanced diet for most pets.
If you own a working or sporting dog that’s active, Matrix is a higher protein, higher calorie food. Matrix also offers a cat formula which is lower in ash and magnesium for active cats, but not the older and inactive indoor cat.
For puppies and nursing mothers or performance and show dogs, and older, less active dogs, Anmar has natural chicken and rice formulated for their individual needs.
Although I haven’t used this yet, Everyone’s Best Friend has a Vitamin supplement for dogs and cats. It’s a liquid that you add to your pet’s food that’s rich in linoleic acids for healthier skin and coats. It states that you can see and even feel a difference in a week. My dealer was out and has more on order, which I plan to buy for my dog and cat when the supply arrives.
A complete draw back and hardship for me and possibly for most of you in smaller locales, is finding California Natural Chicken Meal and Rice Dry and any of the Natura Pet Products’ line of pet foods and vitamin supplement products. Only authorized dealers can sell their products. Some pet stores are authorized, however in my town of a population of over 72,000 there aren’t any authorized dealers to buy it from; pet stores, vets or kennels. I have to drive east twenty-five miles to little town a lot smaller than mine in order to buy from one dog kennel, or drive thirty miles west to another smaller town to buy it from the only authorized dealer there, another dog kennel. My only salvation is our friends visit us often enough to bring us a generous supply. If you are having a difficult time locating it, you can visit the manufacturer’s product web page to find a dealer close to you.
I do like the Natura Pet Products' satisfaction guarantee on all their products because dealers will refund your money or replace the product and Natura Pet Products is just that totally confident of their pet foods and products.
