| randfan's Full Review: Calphalon Nonstick Double-Burner Griddle, Commerci... |
If you've read my previous reviews, you know I am a big Calphalon fan. I keep my eyes out for sales to augment my cookware collection, and I recently picked up this big griddle for the low price of $39.95 plus shipping!*
This 13" x 20" griddle is designed to fit on two burners at once, giving you twice the cooking surface. You can do double the amount of pancakes, french toast, grilled cheese sandwiches or any other food. The anodized aluminum construction insures even heat distribution and even cooking with no hot spots, even on a griddle this large. It is a pleasure to use!
This pan is coated with Calphalon's commercial non-stick coating. While I am usually a fan of their hard anodized (uncoated) cookware, I really enjoy the easy clean up and the non-stick feature of this pan. Pancakes and other foods flip with ease, and it takes virtually no grease, butter, etc. to prep the area for cooking. (Makes low-fat cooking easier!) Also, this pan cleans up easily with soap and a scrubby pad. Don't use too abrasive of a cleanser or a metal cooking utensil, as you could damage the surface.
Calphalon pans have a lifetime warranty on them. The only condition is that the pan must have been cared for in the proper manner. I have never had to test this warranty, however I am getting ready to. One of my favorite pans, a large saute pan, has begun to "deanodize," according to Calphalon. (I contacted them via their website.) Basically, the bottom of it is turning bright silver in color. Although this in no way compromises the pan's performance or safety, Calphalon will replace it with a new pan. Once I return it, they'll issue an immediate replacement. Sounds simple enough, and I'm going to try it.
One thing that is imperative to remember about Calphalon: They must never be put in the dishwasher! To do so not only ruins the pans but it also voids the warranty. But when cared for properly, Calphalon will give you years of great cooking. And when purchased on sale, it's only better!
*As I mentioned, I found this pan on sale for $39.95. I bought it online at www.cutleryandmore.com. This was my first purchase from this website (I bought two Calphalon pans at great prices) and I had no problems.
********** UPDATE **********
I wanted to add to my review the great experience I had with Calphalon on their warranty service. My 5 1/2 quart saute pan had begun to deanodized (turn silver) on the inside bottom of the pan. I contacted Calphalon via email, and described the problem and how I had cared for the pan. They instructed me to send it back to them and they would replace it. It took about 10 days round trip, but I just received my new pan, delivered by FedEx on a Saturday, today. It is slightly restyled, as my old pan was 13 years of age, and Calphalon included a new lid with my replacement so that the pan and lid would match.
I was very impressed with Calphalon's response and follow up and the entire process of their warranty claims. I think this is an excellent example of a company that stands behind their product, and gives me even more conviction in my recommending them so highly.
