| randfan's Full Review: Calphalon Professional Hard Anodized 2-Quart Class... |
I have previously reviewed the Calphalon Whistle Kettle, http://www.epinions.com/content_107550183044 and the information in that review can also apply to this kettle. Having used both models and experienced the different styles, I would like to illuminate readers on the Calphalon Classic Kettle.
I received the Classic Kettle originally from Calphalon as a replacement for my 14-year-old kettle that had begun to de-anodize. I returned the Classic in favor of the more contemporary Whistle model. Calphalon then sent me another Classic model! They didn't want to bother with my returning it, so now I have one of each style. Being an Epinions reviewer, I had to try both models and compare the two.
The Classic Kettle is every bit as durable as the Whistle version. It heats water quickly and even, because the hard-anodized material gives even heat distribution. Hot water is available for coffee, tea or other uses in just a few minutes.
The Classic Kettle has a well-sized two-quart capacity, which is plenty of water for a nice pot of tea or coffee. My previous Calphalon kettle was larger, but I never used all of the water, and its large size made it cumbersome to handle when full. This kettle's size allows it to provide plenty of water, but it remains easy to lift and pour, even when filled to capacity. The kettle is well balanced, which makes handling easy.
The coated handle of the kettle stays cool so you don't burn your hand while handling a hot kettle. The handle is directly above the kettle, not angled, but the spout is curved which draws the steam away from the top and further protects your hands from burns.
The lid of the Classic Kettle fits snugly, but easily removes for filling and refilling. The entire construction of the kettle is durable and sturdy, just what you'd expect from Calphalon. The interior of this kettle is smooth, anodized aluminum and wipes clean, although as it is made to heat water it really doesn't get dirty. I have soft water and have no water residue or mineral build up in my kettle, and it wasn't a problem in my other Calphalon kettle either.
While the style of the Classic Kettle is not as appealing to me as the Calphalon Whistle Kettle, the Classic performs equally well. The Classic is not inexpensive, but it is comparably priced with other designer kettles and should last for years. It's lifetime warranty makes it a secure purchase, too. If you need a dependable and well-made kettle, want even and quick heat distribution, and desire an attractive, traditional design, the Calphalon Classic is the perfect choice.
