| jdrum1's Full Review: Cambridge Soundworks SoundWorks 2 Speakers |
One of the first things I noticed about my computer when I got it a few weeks ago was that the speakers made me want to vomit. I did not expect much from them, but they are Polk, so I was very dissapointed to see them put their good name on such crap. I went to my local Best Buy to get something better.I did not want to spend much on new speakers, but I did want a quality sound. Talk about being in the right place at the right time. This system was on clearance. Their original price was around $60 and on sale for $39. This is a good price, but it got even better. All they had left was the floor model. I got them for $20! I felt like this was a good price but I did not want to buy junk just because it is cheap(I already got that with the computer). These compared with much higher price brands sush as Klipsch. The sound was as smooth, but you sacrafice the power and the modern, streamline looks of others. I felt that even at the original price they were a good value, so I got them. One of the drawbacks was I got no box, manual, or the stands for the satellites. For $20 I will not complain.
PRO:
Setup on the speakers is easy, as it should be. There is an in-line volume controll on the cable that goes from the satellites to the subwoofer(standard on all I looked at). The system is small, it will fit anywhere. The sound is good from such a small system. The satellites have a crisp sound. The subwoofer sounds good too(proper placement makes all the difference). And most of all, the price(even at regular price).
CON:
I do not think that they have auto-on/off. I am not sure of this(like I said; no owners manual), but the green power LED on the back of the subwoofer stays on all of the time. The subwoofer does lack power, but to get a system with more will cost well over $100. There is a gap between the frequency range of the satellites and the subwoofer. High and low sounds good, but When listening to midrange sounds, they sound weak and/or innacurate. This is a problem for most pc speakers. A frequency cutoff on the subwoofer would fix this. All of these complaints are easy to overlook for the price.
These are not the best pc speaker, but I have yet to hear any better for under $100!
