| BRmom's Full Review: Camcorder |
We purchased this Fisher Price camcorder for our 3year old son as a Christmas present. From the packaging it looked interesting and neat but it was not until we opened it that we found out how intriguing it really is.
I will begin with quality. It is made of super thick plastic that is exremely durable. This camcorder can take a beating and not even scratch. This is a major plus for a children's toy.
It has many interesting features. There is a knob that works the zoom lens bringing it out and back. There is a button that when pushed in either direction makes sounds as if it was actually recording. There is a little red light that comes on which is a pretend record light. There is a handy strap that allows your child to hold it like an adult camcorder. The best feature of all is that it has a working viewfinder. Open it up and you can actually see the room around you in it. It really works!
To me, the only downsides to this toy is this. It comes with a cute little pretend VCR tape that you can insert into the side. This is easily lost and it is just for detail. It would have been much better if this was a permanent part of the toy or if it had actually done something like show a short video on the camcorder screen.
I recommend this for ages 3+. It is durable enough for a younger child to play with but I do not think they would really grasp the imaginative play it can bring out until they are older than 3. If you, your husband, friend, etc has a camcorder as well your child will get a KICK out of pretending to tape along with you.
Two thumbs up here
