One of the greatest features of this pack is the storage capacity. It holds about 2100 cubic inches of storage along with 100 ounces of fluid. I bought this backpack to use on lightweight overnight hikes during the summer. The size should work out just right. When it is nice and warm, and not necessary to carry any extra clothing, 2100 cubic inches is more than enough to pack all of my food. The pack also has compression straps to keep everything nice and tight. I can even use the combination of the outside webbed pockets and compression straps to pack my tent and poles on the outside if I wish.
Camelbak is the leader in hydration systems, so the bladder works wonderfully. It has a large easy fill opening, so you can add ice right into the bladder. The storage pouch is insulated, so by adding some ice (two handfulls), the water stayed cold for nine hours. Now this was indoors the whole time, at a temperature of around 70 degrees, so summer performance will probably not be as good.
The backpack also has a sternum strap and a waistbelt. The waistbelt will fit most everyone. At 6'4 and 300 lbs, I had no problem fitting into this pack. Between the sternum strap, waistbelt, and compression straps, the pack fits very closely and tightly and feels like you are in control the entire time.
This pack does have a couple of minor negatives. First of all, it only comes in one size. I have a long torso, and so I would like it better if the pack were a little longer. Also, I have had to improvise with storage on the outside of the pack. I would like to see more loops, especially something for a sleeping bag at the bottom.
You can find very good prices on this pack. As of this writing (4/29/2003), you can find these packs on e-bay for only $75. That's how I bought mine, and it is a really good deal, considering Cabelas is selling it for $100, and some places are charging even more.
