Pros: Allows for standard ice cubes, no spill top, clips to carabiner
Cons: Not 100% leak proof if you don't fully flip down the valve.
The Bottom Line: An engineered bottle which earns my praises. The bite valve top is compatible with other bottles. The handle/carabiner clip is awsome!
I have to say that I was a die hard Nalgene bottle guy for a number of years, they are just awsome but I thought I would try the new Camelbak bottles. I bought this bottle durring the winter, specifically for a freezing December Packer game. I bought the green one to show some Packer spirit. I got the .75 liter size because it is a good diameter for gripping, not too large like many bottles. The bottles intended use for that day was a my spillproof, belt clippable, giant sized, Wisconsin style tailigating in December, mixed drink carrier, more specifically Red Bull and Stoli Vodka.
The the screw top bottle has a nice wide mouth easily accepting standard size ice cubes, a big plus in my active and overly parched world. Now with the weather being freezing I didn't need a whole lot of ice but I added some anyhow.
The bottle has a couple unique features. The obvious one is the flip up bite valve. Anyone that has used Camelbak products before will be familiar with the rubbery bite valve introduced with their hydration packs. The ingenious valve that contains no moving parts, just bite it and sip, pretty darn ingenious.
From the flip up valve there is an internal rigid straw that pulls liquid from the bottom. The straw is well placed and very close to the actual bottom to get the most out of your liquids. I would say that the internal straw is the best implementation I have seen. It is very irritating not to be able get all the liquid out of your bottles easily.
Here is the funny little kicker with my day's intended use; my mixed drink is carbonated, the bottle is air tight, flip top valve and all. A quick shake of the bottle and I had zero effort drinking, just bite the valve and the pressure from the carbonation would gently shoot a gulp of Red Bull and Stoli into my mouth, done biting the valve, no leaking or pressure loss, beautiful.
In closing, I was apprehensive to stray from the seemingly perfect Nalgenes that I had grown to love. But on my desk at work, next to my Nalgene(which I now use rarely) sits my Camelbak filled with water; I am unable to spill it on my papers. I use it almost daily and would recommend to anyone for an active use or where you want safety from spilling.
