Magick1's Full Review: Campbell Chunky Soup, Beef with Country Vegetables...
Campbell’s Soups are very well known. I am sure everyone has had a least one can of some flavor made by Campbell’s Soups. They have been making soup for well over 100 years (if Wikipedia can be believed). The make a wide range of soups, condensed soups, and healthier versions of these soups. If you go into a soup aisle in any grocery store, you will be able to easily spot the red and white labels with the gold medals on them. But, the Chunky Soups have a bright red label, or a bright red label with a big green box across the middle for the healthier versions (low sodium, etc.). I am reviewing the regular version here.
The Product The soup looks delicious. When you pop open the can (with the easy pop top), you will notice immediately the large chunks of beef and vegetables. There are no minced little carrots, peas, potatoes. No sir or ma’am, there are not. These chunks of vegetables are quite large. You will have no trouble identifying the ingredients!
This soup contains carrots, potatoes, peas, celery and beef. The beef pieces are very nice sized. They are not large chunks of beef pieces, but they are still respectable. There is not a tremendous amount of beef in the soup. As always, I feel there could be more in most soups that I try. But, the vegetables are definitely in great supply. All of the vegetables taste fresh and have a tender crisp kind of texture. None of these vegetables are mushy or lacking in shape and form at all. Some soups, you cannot say that about, but this one you can.
The smell is just like what you would expect if you were creating a nice beef stew at home. The nice beef aroma wafts from the microwave (or stove if you prefer cooking it this way). I prepare my lunch at work and this is so easy and fast. I grab the can, pop off the top, put it in a microwaveable bowl and cover it and cook for roughly 2 minutes. The timing might vary depending on the microwave’s strength.
If you do cook a long time, though, some of your vegetables will explode and become mushy. Also, they will mess up the inside of your microwave. Trust me, as I have done that before. This is why I always cover the dish when I am cooking. We you pull this out of the microwave, you might want to let it sit for about a minute undisturbed. I pulled a bowl out and instantly stirred it up. The soup, or a vegetable rather, popped and sent some super hot, thick broth flying onto my face. I landed just below my eye. Whew, that was a close one! So, you might not want to jump on it too quickly once you pull it out!

Overall Impressions I really enjoy this soup, except one thing. I absolutely HATE the amount of sodium. Remember, 1 serving is 37% of the daily intake. If you eat the can, boy oh boy, watch out!
I enjoy the flavor of the soup. It does remind me of home cooking! That is very nice. The chunks of vegetables and the beef are very nicely sized, noticeable and make the soup a hearty one to eat. The soup doesn’t have really any spices, it is just the vegetables, the broth and the beef that flavor this soup and it’s great! It’s a very filling meal too. With the vegetables in the soup, I feel full long through the day and I find that I am not hungry by 2:30 or 3:00 after eating my lunch at 11:30 like I do with other meals. It tides me over until after I get home so that I can make a better selection at lunch (and not nibble on that chocolate I have in the desk from Halloween!)
