Pros:Great soup to eat and use in your own recipes
Cons:A bit high in sodium
The Bottom Line: Great for cooking, recipes on can or your own. Check out their website for all sorts of great ideas of meals to prepare with the soups they make.
I am a soup addict! There I've said it. I hope I don't have to go to a 10 step program or anything like that. It's strange, since I live in such a warm climate, that I would enjoy a hot bowl of soup as often as I do, but I guess living with the air conditioning on for ¾ of the year, it keeps me cool enough to enjoy my soup. I make a few homemade soups on cold days, like a split pea with ham and a great chicken soup using a whole chicken which is a meal in itself, but, for the most part, I depend on canned or packaged soups to feed my addiction and also to use in the many recipes I have found which hubby and I really enjoy.

Campbell's soups are known far and wide as hmm, hmm, good eating soups and for their value in preparing many meals. One of my favorites is their Cream of Broccoli Soup. I enjoy eating a bowl of this soup on occasion, especially since now they make most versions of their soups in a heart healthy manner with less sodium and fat.
When using Campbell's soups to cook with I usually buy the regular recipe for the heartiness of the content. But even in this variety, the fat content isn't too bad with just 3.5 grams of fat, no Trans fats, 5 grams of Cholesterol and 12 grams of Carbs, but the sodium weighs in a bit high at 750 mg for anyone who needs to watch their sodium intake. At least they do make a whole line of low sodium brand of soups.
One serving of this soup is 90 calories and there are 2 grams of protein, 1 gram fiber, 3 grams sugar. All in all, not too damaging to your waistline.
To eat a bowl of soup by itself is just so easy to prepare...you can make it in the microwave or on the stove. Just mix contents of the can with one can milk, I always use fat-free milk, but you can use whatever type of milk you like. To microwave, just fill your microwavable bowl, cover and cook on high for 3-3 ½ minutes, leave in the oven for one minute, then stir and enjoy. To heat on stove, add the milk then heat in small pot until hot, stirring often....either way, it couldn't be easier.
On the can's label, for most of their soups, they offer recipe suggestions of every variety. The Cream of Broccoli soup I hold in my hand has a Lemon Broccoli Chicken recipe and, when you take the label off, there are 4 more recipes on the other side. If you want more recipes go to http://www.campbellskitchen.com...I couldn't believe the content on that website of recipes for every taste and for every soup they make.
When I received a gift of a crockpot a few years ago I did a search online for recipes using chicken. So many recipes came up I couldn't believe it, but one struck me as an easy, tasty sounding dish and I tried it. Three years later it is still a favorite and as I write this review I can smell the delicious scent of our dinner wafting out throughout my kitchen. So I thought I would share this recipe with anyone who might like a creamy chicken recipe bursting with fresh, good for you broccoli that even most people, who turn their noses up at the thought of this most healthy cruciferous vegetable, might truly enjoy.
I have doctored up the original recipe which was quite basic and added a few special touches with other ingredients we like and some tasty herbs.
Chicken with Broccoli in a slow cooker.
One package chicken thighs and one package drumsticks. If you really want to watch your fat content take the skin off or buy them already skinless.
One can Cream of Broccoli soup
One cup of milk
Salt and pepper to taste
One bag frozen or fresh Broccoli.
Put chicken in pot, cover with the soup and milk. I mix the soup and milk together first for even distribution, then the salt and pepper. The original recipe says to add the broccoli at the beginning of the cook-time but we have found it comes out too soft and mushy and we like our broccoli with a bit more bite to it so I usually use a fresh package of broccoli and add it just an hour before we eat. But the frozen broccoli works just as well,( the florets are best), that's what I'm using tonight just because I had a bag in the freezer.
Another ingredient I add, which we enjoy, is a half package of frozen Pearl Onions and I use a few teaspoons of Rosemary, Thyme and a bit a Garlic powder along with the salt and pepper. But you can leave those out or add your own special touches. If I have fresh mushrooms in the house I add a handful of those, cut up.
Cook on low for 6 -8 hours. You can serve on top of rice or pasta. We like to use wide noodles, which I cook up just before serving.
So that's it. A really delicious way to get your daily dose of veggies in an easy to prepare way. Campbell's Cream of Broccoli Soup really works in this dish as it does in so many other recipes and has for many years.
This meal is really umm, umm good.
The price of this soup varies but recently they had them on sale for 10 for 10 dollars, at a dollar a piece I stocked up on the 3 varieties I use most often. Usually though they sell for about $1.29 - $1.49
Enjoy and Bon Appitit
