| Suzer's Full Review: Canidae All Life Stages, Canned |
For 16 years I had to be very careful with I fed my chow chow as he had numerous skin allergies and sensitivities to food. Sadly he is no longer with us, but I have a wonderfully rambunctious labrador retriever/German Shepherd (and whatever else sneaked over the fence) mix who is more flexible in what she is able to digest. I am continuing to feed her the Nutro Natural Choice and Nutro Max foods and I am pleased with those dry foods. However, she is not really interested in their canned foods. I saw the Canidae canned foods in a cute little pet store near my house and was inpressed by the ingredients, no by products, the fact that it contains, chicken, lamb, fish in a chicken broth, and naturally includes Omega 6 & 3 fatty acids.
Taste and scent:
Uh no, unlike many of my fellow epinionators, I am not eating dog and cat food to prove a point. I shall stick to shrimp and dark chocolate (not necessarily together), and leave the pet foods to my dog and cats. However, I was up for smelling the food, and it is similar to a subtle, light tuna smell. I permitted Lacy to smell the food in the can to check out her expression and saw an immediate wide grin on her dogly face. I then placed the food in her dish. This food was so appealing that she grabbed it out of the dish, spread it all over my newly cleaned kitchen floor, and savored every last morsel. It didn't take more than a couple of minutes. Fortunately my floor is still shiny and clean.
Digestion:
Of course I added the canned food to Lacy's usual dry food, so that it would not cause her to have an upset stomach or other disturbances. If you plan on changing your pet's diet, always do it slowly.
Who should get this food:
Unlike some dog foods that are recommended for puppies or large breeds, highly active, or senior dogs, pudgy dogs or thin dogs, this is for all dogs, all life stages.
Our experience:
Lacy has been very impressed with this canned food, that we have added to her dry food. Not only is it healthy, it will be good for her through all her life stages. She is a young adult now, but will be good for her through her senior years. She loves the taste, the scent, it enhances her dry food, and adds variety. She has had no negative effects.

Final thoughts and recommendations:
I highly recommend this holistic food for dogs in all life stages, even if they have allergies or sensitivities. Of course, look through the ingredients listing to ensure there aren't any problem ingredients that might adversely effect your dog. I am giving Canidae four stars. The only glitch might be finding it in your local pet stores, but it can be found easily online, and some sites even offer free shipping.
