Canine Carry Outs Beef Flavor Dog Treats

Pros:Low cost, good training aid, vitamins and mineral fortified, real meat, made in USA

Cons:Ingredients like animal digest, preservatives

The Bottom Line: Neither the best nor worst product out there. They may contain some less than ideal ingredients, but also contain real meat, vitamins and minerals.

My granddaughters recently got a new puppy. They brought him over to meet Jasmine, my greyhound, Labrador retriever, and boxer mix.

During their visit, they wanted to give the puppy a treat, but all I had on hand were the Hartz Rawhide Bones that Jasmine likes so much. Since the bones are nearly as big as their new puppy, I didn't think that these were an appropriate treat for him even though he did try to tackle one of Jasmine's.

After a quick trip to town with their aunt, they came back with a couple of packages of treats, including a package of Canine Carry Outs Beef Flavor Dog Treats. Both dogs were eagerly awaiting their treats when the girls got back.

The Canine Carry Outs Beef Flavor Dog Treats came in a resealable 7 ounce pouch. The bite sized pieces look almost like real pieces of beef. The aroma is a pleasant one, not like some of the treats I have purchased in the past.

According to the package, a small dog should have just one treat per sitting. A large dog should be given 3 pieces per sitting. For Jasmine, the bite size pieces were just enough. For the puppy they were fine as well, although you can easily cut them into 2 or 3 pieces. This works well when treating a small dog along with a large one, since this way they both are getting the same amount of treats.

Jasmine gobbled her treats down quickly and cleanly. They did tend to crumble slightly when the puppy ate them, although he quickly cleaned up any remaining crumbs that he had dropped.

These are a moist, chewy treat that the dogs both seemed to enjoy. They are soft enough that they can be cut open to conceal any medications that your dog may need to take. Just cut a slit, slide the medication inside, and watch your dog gobble their medicine down along with the treat. They also can easily be used to train or to reinforce positive behavior in your dogs. Although the puppy is paper trained, I think the girls plan on using these to help get him housebroken.

The package brags that they are made with real beef. Oddly enough though, the first ingredient listed is chicken. The beef is about half way down the ingredient list. In any case, it does have some good healthy ingredients in it, although I am not thrilled with things like animal digest and some of the preservatives. These treats are enriched with vitamins and minerals.

That being said, these are neither the best nor the worst treats out there for your dog. Although there may be better choices out there, they are fine for an occasional treat or training aid and the dogs seem to really enjoy them.

The girls got these at our local Family Dollar store, but they are also easy to find at many other locations such as Walmart, most grocery stores or they can be ordered online.
