Since I was born I have struggled with what are known as Canker Sores or Ulcers inside my mouth. At birth I had so many in my mouth and down my throat, I was hospitalized for months along with other complications. Unfortunately these uncomfortable sores have followed me around for over thirty years since.

When I received CankerMelts Time Release Medicated Discs, I was anxious to try them. Unfortunately, I had come down with two canker sores a couple of days before I received the discs. I was definitely eager to discover whether these "medicated discs" were going to be successful or a complete failure.

In the past I have tried other products such as gels to ease the discomfort that I have felt from canker sores and found that I had very brief relief, if any at all. I was truly hoping that CankerMelts were going to be different and not only heal the sores quickly but also provide the sensitivity of the cankers to dissipate.

~ What are CankerMelts Time Release Medicated Discs? ~

The CankerMelts come in a small box. They are about the size of between a dime and nickel and look dark brown. They are sealed between thin foil and plastic and I received twelve total to use. The Suggested Retail Price for a box of twelve is $7.99 and for twenty-four is $15.99. They are available at drug stores and online.

What is so wonderful about the CankerMelts is that they are All-Natural so even people who like to use homeopathic medicinals can use this product. With taking medications for my health I have to be careful of over the counter items that I use so they do not counteract. I found the CankerMelts being natural was a huge benefit.

~ How are They Supposed to Work? ~

The "medicated disc" is supposed to "adhere" on the canker sore. It releases over a time period of two to six hours inside your mouth after being placed directly or near your canker sore. It is supposed to not only "soothe the pain without numbing," but also not effect the rest of your mouth.

The active ingredient is Glycyrrhiza Extract {GX} which is described as "an extract of licorice root and is anti-inflammatory used as a healing agent."

~ Do They Actually Work Though? ~

The CankerMelts are extremely thin to make them easier to adhere to the inside of your mouth. I found that they were slippery if you just had a drink of water and your mouth is more wet than usual. It was necessary to make sure my mouth was as dry as possible to get the disc to stay in place.

After using the CankerMelts Time Release Medicated Discs for five days, I found that they did offer quite a bit of relief. The first time I used the disc I was expecting some sort of licorice or odd taste but there wasn't really any. I didn't notice an overpowering scent either which I have found in the past with gels. The best part to me was that it didn't numb my entire mouth. The disc provided relief where it was needed.

I found that using the CankerMelts Discs was easiest when laying down and getting ready to rest for the evening, like while watching television. The disc stayed in place. I found that there was adequate relief as well from the canker sores. Although they did not seem to speed up the healing process in my case. I had the canker sores for approximately the same length of time as I usually have in the past.

~ Overall Thoughts ~

I believe that in the future I would purchase the Cankermelts Time Release Medicated Discs to ease the pain and soreness that canker sores and/or ulcers can create. I don't know whether the discs prevented a further outbreak of more canker sores forming inside my mouth, but the couple that I did have went away in a reasonable amount of time.

The discs were tasteless to me and easy to use. They formed to the area in the back of my mouth and stayed still as long as my cheek was on the dryer side. The discs were very thin so they didn't cause any discomfort as far as speaking or breathing easily.

I appreciated the fact that they were natural as so many products these days on the market are starting to steer in that direction. I would much rather have a natural product to use in my mouth rather than some over-the-counter gel that tastes awful and I am unsure of what it contains.

The only drawback that some may consider is the expense. However when it comes to a natural product that works well with any canker sores, money shouldn't be a factor. CankerMelts Time Release Medicated Discs are a worthy investment.

I would recommend trying this product to other consumers if they have cankersore issues like myself. I found that they did soothe the discomfort. However I don't know for sure whether they necessarily sped up the process of healing or not. All in all, it is a decent product.
