unk1911's Full Review: Canon EF 24mm f/1.4L USM Lens
After a year of using this lens I have nothing but great things to say about it. This is a professional lens in every sense. The f/1.4 aperature makes it possible to shoot in the darkest, mirkiest recesses imaginable, while still maintaing high picture quality. I am not exagerating when I say that it is possible to take amazing photos in complete darkness. (setting the camera to long exposure) This lens never ceases to amaze me. I have taken photos in conditions where the naked eyes sees absolute nothing. Complete darkness. The lens is somehow able to capture information. I have taken photos of the night sky and night landscapes. Indoor photos with barely any sources of light. I am, to this day, confounded how it is possible... To prove my point, here's a photo I have taken in total darkness, with a 4.0s exposure and 1600 ISO: http://picasaweb.google.com/mike.melamed/2008_10_04NiagaraTrip#5283914222625389026 The Canon EF 24mm f/1.4L USM is a wide lens however I have not been able to detect any distortion in the photos taken with it. The only lamentable thing, and it of course has nothing to do with this lens, is that my camera, the Rebel XTi, does not do this lens the justice that it deserves and crops the images. I can't wait to get a full frame camera so that my lenses can shine...
