| d-mon's Full Review: Canon CanoScan N1220U Flatbed Scanner |
This scanner is very convenient with it's single USB cable hook-up design. There is no power cable. Another thing that makes this scanner nice is the size of it. It is 10 1/8 inches wide by 14 3/4 inches deep and 1 1/4 inch high in the normal sitting position. This scanner did come with an optional plastic stand to allow for making it a vertical scanner. This piece of plastic that was supplied was kind of cheap looking and didn't fit the styling of the scanner. I did try standing it up with the supplied stand but I didn't feel that it was very stable.
Adobe 5.0 limited software was supplied with the software package of this scanner. I have to say after playing with this program for a while you get used to it. It works nicely to edit pictures scanned into the computer. It works much better than several other full programs that I have purchased just to use in this application. The Cannon software is a very easy to use program. Just point and click on the picture that resembles what you want to do.
With my inexperienced pointing and clicking I inevitability ended up calling Cannon for some help. This is a problem that I completely brought on myself. The people at the Cannon technical assistance center were extremely knowledgeable and friendly. The talked my through my problem the first time and waited on the line until I could solve the problem on my own. They treated my like I was their only customer. I was very impressed, and I wouldn't hesitate to call them with a scanner related problem again.
I find the scan quality generally very good. You do have to be very patient when scanning at maximum resolution though. I have found that it can take several minutes to complete. When scanning images out of magazines and similar sources I find that the pixels kind of bleed together. It is almost like the scanner gets kind of confused. But if you back the resolution down it works quite nicely. Photos and high quality pictures scan almost too perfect. Make sure there is no dust on the platter when you start.
