| Off-the-Bench's Full Review: Canon CanoScan N1220U Flatbed Scanner |
A solution to our problem:
I work for my college newspaper and handle most of our purchases. One of our best purchases was this CanoScan N1220U. The first reason I chose this product was that our office was messy. As a matter of fact, our office was so messy that it took a friend and myself five hours to clean it one night. Our office was so bad that we found an old 14.4k external modem and an unused, unopened 4 gig external hard drive from 1995. Therefore, when it was time for me to choose a new scanner, I selected one that will take up a minimum amount of space. This low profile, lightweight scanner fits well on our external-floppy drive, Jaz drive, USB hub, external CD burner, external hard drive, printer filled desks. Simply put, we had no room so a scanner this size was the perfect choice. However, I was pleasantly surprised by its excellent quality!
The Features
This scanner has excellent scanning quality, 1,200 dpi to be exact. It is easy to setup (I am not exactly a computer wizard but I had no problems) and it comes with a colorful, simple setup book. The lid lifts up, making it easier to scan material from books magazines, newspapers, etc. It connects though the USB port so it has a better quality than parallel-port connections. In addition, this scanner has on button to push and the correct software will appear on screen to do the scan. This makes using this device even easier.
Software
Adobe Photoshop 5.0 limited edition comes with this scanner. Knowing what we paid for our Adobe photo-editing software, this is a great deal. However, there is some difficulty transferring images made in Adobe Photoshop 5.0 to this limited edition version. Yet, the software is free so I can’t complain. Also, as one would expect, the software needed to operate the scanner comes with it.
In Conclusion…
This scanner is small, 10.1” x 14.7” x 1.3” to be exact, and incredibly lightweight so it will not take up a lot of space. It is perfect for people who have limited space. Furthermore, it distinguishes itself from other low profile scanners with its high quality and generous software package. We paid $199 for this scanner, which is a fair price for a scanner of this quality. We are pleased with this product and I am proud that I was the one who found it! I give it my highest recommendation!
