One of my most favorite places to shop os Costco. I am always finding a good deal to take home. About a year and a half ago my wife and I purchased a very expensive camera. We thought we were done by cameras, that was when we were shopping at Costco and stumbled across this scratch and dent sale that they had going on. Sitting on a shelf was a camera made by Canon, it was the EOS Rebel XSI, with 12.20 megapixels. We did not know if this does a brand new model or if it was an old discontinued one. The original price on this particular camera was $900. But for some reason, this camera had a sign on it asking, if you wanted to purchase it see management. So we went to the manager and asked him what the deal was on this camera. That is when he informed us that it was a floor model, and it had some scratches on it. I did not see any very bad scratches, it looked like it had some use on it from people touching it and handling it. We asked them if that was it, they also informed us that there was no box. We inquired as to how much they wanted for the camera, and they replied, only $400. My wife and I have looked at each other, and discussed it for a few minutes. That is when we decided that we would go ahead and purchase it. We know that we did not need an extra camera, but we could not pass up a good deal.

This camera seems to be a little bit smaller than our other one, it only weighs 16.8 ounces. The actual dimensions of this camera is: 5.1" x 3.8" x 2.4" overall. It has a 3.0 inch optical LCD screen on the back. Plus, the lens that comes with the camera is a 3.0 zoom, 18-55 mm lens. They had two different colors sitting up on a shelf. They come in silver and black, and you will also receive a lens cap, a battery, one charger, one strap, one USB cable, and one video cable. You will also receive a program on disc, called the digital solution disk and instruction manuals. The other thing that you will receive is a set of booklets one called Great Photography Is Easy and Do More with Macro.
Since we were not on the market for a new camera, my expectations was not real high. But, we figured since this new camera came with 12.20 megapixels, we expected better graphics, and the fact that you could help from one spot to the other by the push of a button. That, of course, we did expect it to take better pictures. That is exactly what we got, there is not much difference in our 10 megapixel camera and this one. But, if youve laid a picture from one camera and a picture from the other side by side, you can see a slight difference. Since this camera is totally different from our first digital cameras, we had to get used to the navigation system on the new camera. You would not say that having a little bit larger LCD screen on the back would make any difference, but it really does. For some reason it makes the picture looked 10 times larger. This seems to make the pictures look twice as bright as the other camera. We also expected to camera to pay more attention to detail. Once we started taking pictures with this. We did notice a definite and a more sensitive and high-quality resolution to the pictures. My only explanation for the better resolution would be that we have more megapixels in this camera. A couple of other things that we did expect a buying this camera, we were hoping that the navigation would be a lot easier to use, plus when transferring files from the camera to your computer we thought it would be quite a lot better or easier to use. As we soon found out, the transferring of files was as simple as 1, 2, 3. You can do this, one of two ways. The first just by plugging your USB cable into your computer, it should recognize the program can pop up on your screen that you follow the prompts and it is real quick to do this. Or, you can take the disk out of your camera, put it into your printer if it will accept it, and go from there. My printer will let you print from a screen on the printer instead of the computers so I have a dual access from this department. While the navigation system on any camera can be difficult to understand. The only thing I can tell you about this one is, the more you use it, the easier it gets. By the just a touch of a button, and as long as you have a manual alongside to follow. You can zoom in on each individual picture to see the greatest detail that you could ever picture. With this larger screen on the back makes it easier to review all of your images, plus the larger memory disk you put inside will hold quite a bit more pictures. I notice that if you are right-handed. You will be of will to operate this a lot easier than the left-handed because all of the buttons are basically on the right-hand side of the back of the camera. There is been quite a few times that we have needed the other lens, but now that we have two cameras we just leave one lens on one camera and one lens on the other.
A lot of the main features of this camera has to do with the megapixels, 12.20 megapixels is the most that Ive seen in any camera. This camera has two different types of pixels, and one is 12.20 that is the effective pixels, and the other is the total pixels and that is 12.40 megapixels. More than likely in less than six months they will make this camera obsolete by inventing a camel with more megapixels this particular kit only comes with a one lens, and that is a 18-55 mm lens. It is very simple to install this lens on your camera, there is a button that you hold in and just as this lens, counterclockwise, and it locks into place. I have found that the best for me that is, to leave this on automatic instead of manual. That way. It is very easy to camera will autofocus in a matter of a split second on the object you are trying to take the picture on. You can still rotate the lens, and if you are off a little with the camera will still adjust to make the best shot possible. This camera has a 3.0 LCD monitor on the back with a 170 wide viewing angle. Compared to the 2.5 LCD monitor on the other one, they always say that bigger is better and in this case it is. It also is compatible with 60 different lenses and has a wide range of accessories. Unlike some other camera as that only use one particular type of memory card. This camera is compatible with the SD and SDHC memory cards. The newest technology from what I am told, is the CMOS (complementary metal oxide semiconductor) from what I understand, this is what help you get the best clarity and brightness in your pictures. This also has a Digic III Image Processor and a 14 bit conversion, I know that a lot of people will not understand this because I dont understand myself. But this is just some of the specs that is in this camera. There is an auto Optimizer on this camera, which I have actually seen in action by holding two pitchers up side-by-side, even though both pitchers are good. One of them looks like it is a shade darker than the other, the one that is a much brighter picture is the one that has this option on the camera. I love the speed of this camera, basically and1/4000th of a second to 1/60th of a second after you press the button to take the picture. Your camera is electronically controlled and has a focal plane shutter. Which means that there is hardly any delay from when you push down on the button to when the flash goes off. If you prefer to take a picture a timer this camera also can do that. You can set it for a 10 second or two second delay or continuous shooting with the delay. This camera also has a built in flash which you can use with or without the flash. But the camera will sense, whether it needs is a flash or not. And if it does. It will pop up in the recycle time is approximately 3 seconds. There is an indicator light that will tell you when it is ready. If you are trying to take a succession of pictures. In some kind of a speed test, there is about 3.5 seconds between shots. You can also play back your pictures, which is very nice, if you dont like the picture that you just took you can delete it right away to save space on your disk. There also is a spot on here where you can, just like a cassette desk if you break the little tab off the back. You can protect that this will this as a way to protect certain pictures from being erased. Another nice feature is that this camera will tell you how many shots is available with your flash, and how many shots is available without the flash.
I have tried this camera in a whole bunch of different situations. But, where it has impressed me the most is when I was taking pictures of some ducks that had just come out of the water. I was able to lay on the ground quite a few feet away, and zoom in on them. After I took the shot and looked at the back of the camera, I was able to see every water droplet that was on the wings of the duck. Then there was another instance where I was taking some pictures of some beautiful flowers, I zoomed in on the flour for a close-up and after I took the picture I looked at it again and saw that the flour was a bright vibrant color and crystal-clear. The background was, looked like it was in a fog. I tried printing this one out, and it was one of the most beautiful pictures I have ever seen. I took pictures standing up on the balcony and zooming down to the ground, they all came out with pinpoint accuracy. I was able to navigate to the camera with ease struggling at first but once I got doing it, the easier it came to me. Since I had both cameras with me. It was very easy to learn not to have to take the lens off. My wifes niece is a photographer, and she has a camera similar to this. That said that you have to be careful when replacing the lens with another one that you do not get any hair inside of the camera after you pull the lens off. She said always hold the camera with the opening facing down when you do this. Another thing that I have learned with these kind of cameras is the fact that you have to use the right paper when printing from these cameras. I have found that no matter how good of a camera that you have if you have the wrong kind of photo paper in your printer. You will still get a bad picture, so be careful when printing a bad paper. I did notice that if you are in an air-conditioned place and go from the inside of the house or wherever you are at to the outside, that you have to let your camera warm back up, because the screen will be very foggy when you look through it.
the battery that comes with this camera is an LP-E5. It is a 1080 MAH lithium-ion battery. I have also found that since using this new type of camera it is always wise to have a spare battery. In this case, they only give you one battery with your camera, and now I see why the camera is a lot cheaper than the rest and that is because the battery will cost you over $100. There is a spot on the LCD screen that will tell you how low your battery life is. I have noticed that I can go a whole weekend on one battery charge, and a lot has to depend on. If you use your flash or not. There is a built-in secondary battery, which Im not too sure how that determines how long your battery will last. There is a power saving device on this camera that will shut down after 30 seconds, 1, 2, 4, 8, or 15 minutes. I dont usually mess with this because I dont mind shutting down to save battery life.
What else can I say about the lens that I havent already said, other than there is an automatic image stabilizer on the outer edge of this lens is very easy to install, by pushing a simple button and holding it down this will hold it in place. There is also an integrated cleaning system that is on this camera. It has a filter that since this any dust or particles and shakes them off, they are trapped in an adhesive on the base to prevent them from being stuck inside and interfering with a good picture.
You would think that this camera, being on the little bit on the expensive side, that you would have a better warranty that most. But, you did not. You only get a one year warranty from the date of purchase, and that is basically it. If you need any assistance, you can go to Canadas website, which is www.USA.canon.com or you can call their customer service department at 1-800-828-4040 and there is no charge for this call. The battery on the other hand, a lot of people do not know that they carry a separate warranty, and that is a 90 day limited warranty. So far, I do not foresee any problems to have to call this company or e-mail them for any help. The camera is just great, I cannot say much more about it other than you will not be disappointed in the pictures that you take and the ease than it is to use this camera.
I am just a novice when it comes to using a camera of this caliber, I am basically one of those people that likes to point and shoot to take a picture. I do not claim to know any of the vocabulary of a photographer, but what I do like to tell people is about the good deal that I got on this camera, and how easy it is to use. I find that the brilliance of the pictures that this takes is mind blowing. If you are one of those people that have a small digital camera that you could just packed away in your pants pocket, thats okay. Keep on using it, but until you are shown something better you will keep on using it. I have found the best kind of camera that you can use at a graduation it inside under the fluorescent lighting, those little cameras that have low pixels will not allow you to take better pictures under those conditions. Plus if you had to take a picture on a split-second notice, if an object is moving on you, all you will get is a blurry look, as a result from one of those other cameras. With this particular camera you will be almost learn and take a lot better pictures. Your friends will be astounded to that you took these pictures. I hope that you will enjoy this camera if you decide to buy it.
