| neatslob's Full Review: Canon ES8400V Hi-8 Analog Camcorder |
This camcorder is a perfect choice if you want decent quality at a low price during this period of rapid emerging digital technology. Rather than spending $1,000 to $2,000 on a digital camcorder that still records on video tape, consider purchasing a low cost Hi8 and waiting a while for Canon and other companies to further develop and improve the newer formats (such as DVD recordable). You will hear a lot of hype about digital camcorders, but the Hi8s, which until recently were pricey, are inexpensive, easy to use and almost as good as expensive digital camcorders.
The battery that was included and the Eveready backup battery I purchased charged up quickly. The first time I used it, I recorded a varsity high school basketball game without a tripod. The picture was clear and stable, and the sound was loud and clear. I kept the LCD viewer open the entire time but did not deplete even one battery. My only complaint is the hard-to-use zoom button. The position of the zoom button is not very good, and the sensitivity of the button could use improvement. However, it's a terrific camcorder for $299.
