| STLambert's Full Review: Canon Elph 240 APS Film Camera |
I've been involved in photography for 35 years as both a hobby and semi-professionally. The Elph is perhaps the most elegant solution yet created for CERTAIN photographic needs. Here's the scooop...
If you're wanting to be the next Ansel Adams- forget it. While the Elph offers amazing quality for such a small package- it's not going to produce 20"x24" enlargements for museums.
BUT- if you're looking for a "toss it in your pocket or purse" camera that will produce great photographs wherever and whenever you need it you'll be delighted by Canon's Elph.
The real key to this camera is the combination of convenience/quality. There are few cameras more convenient than the Elph, small, simple, reliable and foolproof. But the difference is that most small/convenient packages in the past have produced mediocre quality results at best. Not so the Elph. For snapshots and moderate enlargements (5"x7" and in some cases 8"x10") you'll be amazed at the quality.
While there are other cameras that produce better results the problem is you NEVER have them with you when you need them. The camera that produces the truly GREAT images is always at home- in the camera bag in the closet instead of in your pocket.
Most of the time the key to great photographs is having a camera with you and knowing how to use it. Whether it's a great sunset, an impromptu meeting between your daughter and a bunny rabbit in the park, or a surprise birthday party at the office for a co-worker- you'll have the Elph with you. It's no larger than a pack of cigareettes and you'll find yourself producing more and better photographs simply because you have it with you when you need it.
I own several Nikons, lots of lenses, etc., etc., etc.- but I consistently produce more great photos with the Elph simply because it's always with me while all the Nikon gear is home. You'll love this little camera. Canon has a winner!
