| pvl5's Full Review: Canon Elph 240 APS Film Camera |
I was given this camera as a gift and can say that I am absolutely impressed. My expectations for the camera were not let down. On my trip to Europe this past summer, I brought along the Canon Elph and took pictures of the canals of Venice, Italy and the wineries of the Alsace region of France. And I can honestly say that these pictures came out, not only extremely sharp, but very colorful, and true-to-life. In addition, the new APS system allows for 3 different sizes of photos. This means that the camera will be more versatile in terms of the different types of scenery it can capture. In my particular case, I used a wide-angle view to take pictures of the long rows of grapes of various wineries I visited. And I must say, that the camera was loyal in capturing the beauty of the landscape. For a point-and-shoot camera, it takes the best pictures that I ever seen.
In addition to the good photo quality, the durability of the camera is also impressive. As is apparent, from the small photo which is shown above, the case is metal. This, intuitively, lends itself well to a good round beatings with little damage.
Important to note, as well, is the ease of use. For normal shots, simply depress the shoot button half-way to focus, then depress fully to take the photo. The flash is automatic -- the camera is sensitive to light conditions.
Of complaints to mention, however, is the zoom-ability of the camera. It only zooms up to 1-1/2 times, I believe -- which is quite limited. But, I would have to say, as a trade-off for the pocket-size convenience, it is small price to pay. All in all, it is a great camera to take out on small outings, to dinner parties, etc. where you would be using it to take pictures of friends. I would definitely recommend this camera to anyone who is looking for a simple-to-use, and easy-to-carry camera.
