Pros: Good Price, good software, good for Mac
Cons: Slow, not for high volume
The Bottom Line: If you need an all purpose machine, and don't have a high volume of stuff to do, and if you have one phone line and a Mac, this is it.

| ubitout's Full Review: Canon MultiPASS C545 InkJet Printer |
I had really been in need of a printer for some time, but the prices kept me away- it seems all the cheaper models are not Mac compatible.
Well, my brother found this one, and I am quite happy with it, it's perfect for my home needs.
My needs are:
-scanning the occasional document
-scanning my signature and putting it in documents to fax, mail or email or print and mail
-sending about 10 faxes a week
-printing copies of my resume and business correspondence
-printing the occasional color flier.
That may not seem like a lot for you, but it's a total pain to have to take a disk to Kinko's or send something email when you'd rather have a receipt from the post-office.
My cat finds the machine quite intriguing. It's not very noisy, but it is an ink-jet, not a laser.
It came nicely packaged by Canon, and we bought it on the internet for a good price.
The set-up was easy enough, but there was something wrong with my cable. I couldn't figure it out at first- I went to a computer store, but the cable itself was selling for $90!
Finally I called up Canon customer service, and they were very helpful, walking me through everything on the phone, which they were able to do based on the unit serial number.
It was determined that the cable didn't work, so they sent me a new one by express mail, and then it worked fine. They have a customer service protection plan which is an additional fee, I haven't decided whether I will fork out for this, but it might be a good idea.
The unit is a great size and looks very attractive, it is well designed and relatively idiot proof.
There is a tool bar which gives you a lot of easy options, like scan to an image program, scan to a word processing program, or scan to email.
There are many customized options for the fax set-up, and I like the fact that I can put my 1 phone line through the machine and then to my computer, the machine seamlessly juggles my internet and fax, since that is the line I use to access the internet.
The unit comes with a lot of useful Mac-specific software, and comes with 1 color ink cartridge and 2 black cartridges.
When I printed out a document using a very lush font, I must admit that it was pretty slow, but the document looked very nice, at least.
All in all, if you have a Mac, and need an affordable, attractive, uncomplicated all-in-one scan/print/fax/copier, I'd definitely recommend this little trooper.
